Samari Rolle will probably be released. I'm hoping we replace him with DJ Moore. I'm really liking this kid as a prospect.

I don't know much about Carr, other than minor name-recognition.

What should we expect out of him? It says he only recorded 1 INT in a full season last year, so that didn't sit particularly well with me...

Ya I really don't know too much about him either. He's supposed to be a pretty good return man too, but thats what we drafted Figurs for, so I'm thinking he could be our nickel corner this year.

So reports are coming out of Baltimore Radio stations that the Ravens are going to sign Tight End L.J Smith formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles (within a week).

Also that we are one of 5 or 6 teams that are showing interest in both Anquan Boldin and Torry Holt, but probably not #1 in either of those sweepstakes.

Could Smith be insurance for Todd Heap? Or does this mean Heap is gone?

Not sure.

However, the deal is now official....

The Ravens are expected to sign tight end L.J. Smith on Wednesday, a league source said.

The parameters of a one-year, $1.5 million deal are in place with Smith, the source added. Smith, 28, the best tight end left in free agency, is scheduled to meet with the Ravens Wednesday.

The Ravens are looking to improve their depth at tight end. The team currently has Todd Heap, Quinn Sypniewski and Edgar Jones.

Smith, 28, has ties with coach John Harbaugh when they were both with the Philadelphia Eagles. Last season, Smith caught 37 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

We have also released Samari Rolle....

Samari Rolle's courageous run with the Ravens is coming to an end.

After overcoming epileptic seizures and a midseason neck surgery during his four years as a Ravens starting cornerback, Rolle told The Baltimore Sun yesterday that he will be released by the team Monday.

Rolle, 32, envisioned a diminished role after the team signed Domonique Foxworth on the first day of free agency.

"I anticipate [the release] happening. I'm happy," Rolle said. "Everyone got what they wanted out of this. I wish the Ravens nothing but the best of luck."

Unexpectedly, the Ravens have resigned Samari Rolle (20+ days after releasing him) to a 4-year deal.

Wow.

Um, four years?

If NFL contract lengths meant anything at all, I would consider that highly questionable.

Ravens draft OT Michael Oher with the 23rd overall pick (traded down with the Patriots to get pick 23).

Flacco should be well-protected for the foreseeable future.

Paul Kruger in the 2nd round. Looks like we got another guy that fits the system, although I'd like to see Kruger bulk up and be the guy who takes over for Trevor Pryce.

The question is what are we going to do about our receiving core?

Giving Flacco more protection with the Oher selection is all well and good, but more time for Joe won't mean a damn thing if the receivers don't get open.

We need to do something to improve our receivers. I don't think we can count on Clayton improving to the point where he can be a #1 option, and we still don't have a credible 3rd option.

I think they're drafting for value, not need. Honestly, I think we might be better off waiting till next year to try to find a big time WR. We have quite a few young WR's with Marcus Maxwell, Demetrius Williams, Marcus Smith, and Justin Harper and one of them might develop into something good. I think that this year, Ozzie didn't see any value with the WR's on the board.

Paul Kruger is mofo'n BEAST. Homeboy got stabbed with a screwdriver and was a straightup monster last year for the Utes. Will he be used as OLB? DE? BOTH? Congrats on that dude . . .

Pretty much. It never had a great chance at happening, anyway. We expressed interest, but in the end, having to pay him 9-10mil per year just isn't possible, considering we would have had to restructure a bunch of deals and had the potential of losing a guy like Suggs, Ngata, etc.

It's one of those things where the fan in you wants it to happen but the realist in you says it's not a good idea and could kill us in the long-run.

so i just finally got around to looking at the schedule and we play the entire nfc north. that's awesome because that's pretty much my home division so most of those games should be on tv here.

i am a little worried though. the last time the ravens played the packers, they won 48-3 and i've been holding that over the heads of people on the bucks board and i don't want to lose that

shame jerrod. Though it's nice to see a Bucks/Ravens fan. Though it's the homers first (Packers/Bronco's, then Ravens). I'm happy that I'll possibly get to see a couple games since its an afc-nfc north year in the schedule. Was wondering thoughts on picking up Foxworth and letting go of Leonhard in favor of Landry. How's the secondary looking after this offseason to the faithful Ravens fans (I'm a relatively new fan).
