Nor would I. Harvey's the only one I'm really not sure about, though, and he's the most likely to fall into our range unless someone absolutely falls in love with him up there.

I do still have qualms about drafting DEs, though, when the DTs are the worst in all of football.

Since the Bengals lost out on Shaun Rogers and Marcus Stroud, I now want them to trade down, grab some extra picks, and draft Dan Connor and Erin Henderson in the first two rounds.

And where are we gonna find one? We'll be missing out on the two best DTs, which is a bigger need than DE. At least at DE, we'll have Geathers and Bryan Robinson, who is not good but has a lot of experience. It's also possible that some good DE slips to the third round, a la Quentin Moses...but there are plenty of cautionary tales there, also.

If you want a 3-4, let's use a Geathers/Thornton/Peko front line and use Brooks, Thurman, Henderson and Connor as LBs. That would be pretty studly.

I haven't heard anything from Derrick Harvey or Philip Merling that has greatly impressed me either. They're both just speedy pass rushers, which is nice if our run defense wouldn't be so putrid.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this defense has too many holes to be fixed in one year. It's going to take two, maybe three. That having been said, there are plenty of opportunities to get better soon and we need to take stock in them.

BTW, I am concerned at the prospect of starting Marvin White and Nedu Ndukwe at safety this year. That could really blow up in the FO's faces.

^ hm.. i would rather stay with the 9th pick and get a good D-lineman. geathers should play OLB, i don't think he is buff enough to play DE in a 3-4 system.

by the way, here's a great article on moving to 3-4 for cincinnati.
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ ... 803020459/

the only true NT we have right now is peko. thronton can play DE. fanene too.

as for safeties, i think it's best for us to sign a veteran Safety. (we can drop jackson).

We can't ban bandwagon fans, otherwise 75% of all posters would be gone.

Now that they've made a trade for Dewayne Robertson, I'm curious to see how the chips fall. They only have four draft picks (1, 2, 3, 7) without factoring in compensatory selections and a 4-3 scheme seems better suited to the personnel.

I actually lied; we traded our seventh-rounder for Fitzpatrick. So we have rounds 1, 2, 3, and 6.

If I had to guess, our compensation picks are likely fourth-rounders for both Williams and Smith, but it's hard to judge.

We can come up with a real productive draft day if we play our cards right here.

now that we have signed odom, people are suggesting if ellis or dorsey don't fall into our pick, bengals should trade down. i think it's possible. lots of people are excited about keith rivers. people have also suggested drafting mendenhall or stewart but i don't see that happening even though i would be just as excited.

We signed Odom? Badass. That allows Peko to move to DE and the 3-4 becomes more realizable.

Seriously, trade down, draft J-Stew, trade Rudi for a third-rounder (maybe to the Chargers, who can recast him as a FB), and use the extra picks on OL and LB.

I like it.

Two important points:

1. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bengals beat writer, we may receive as many as four compensatory selections in this draft. If we even get two, that'd be huge.

2. It sounds like the coaches plan on lining up Odom opposite Robert Geathers at DE, meaning any mock where the Bengals take Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey is probably the most realistic scenario. The 3-4 plans have probably been either scrapped or shelved.

Usually I'd be in agreement here, but I don't think we should. Not unless it's a feature back to pair with Rudi or ship him out of town. The threesome of Rudi/Kenny "ACL" Irons/Quincy Wilson is pretty bad compared with the rest of the league, and a second-tier runner like Ray Rice won't help matters.

It's now looking more and more like an elite DT (Ellis or Dorsey) will fall into Cincy's lap. Excellent.

I do wonder, though, what it would cost to nab an additional first-rounder and pick one of Stewart or Mendenhall. Maybe the Bengals' 2nd, 4th and next year's 1st? I'd do that in a heartbeat.

In the meantime, get those LBs...they're the biggest need right now, and even two quality guys could help Cincy become a decent defense in 2008.

Hey I read on bengals.com that they were actually thinking about drafting a offensive player. if they do that, i seriously might have a mental breakdown
