Al Wilson's Broncos career is over. The Broncos will release the former defensive captain today, according to a source close to the situation.
A news conference is scheduled at 2 p.m. to discuss Wilson's future at the Denver office of Wilson's agent, Peter Schaffer.
There is a strong chance Wilson, 29, may not play in 2007 and that he could decide to end his career.
The five-time Pro Bowl selection suffered a neck injury Dec. 3 against Seattle. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and spent a short time at a local hospital before being released. Wilson then came back to finish the season.
However, on March 23, he failed a physical with the New York Giants, who nixed a proposed trade from Denver. Wilson subsequently saw a specialist in Los Angeles who confirmed the injury.
Wilson was a first-round draft choice out of Tennessee in 1999. He quickly became a fierce vocal leader and a fan favorite. Wilson was voted a starter for the Pro Bowl this past season, but he didn't play because of he had postseason thumb surgery.

Sad day in Bronco Nation I wish he could stay and play another year but it looks like he is pretty banged up.

we will Move DJ to the MLB now.. so right now... DJ WILLIAMS IS our MLB... Gold will be the weak still, and we will bring up Cameron Vaughn to replace DJ... I Think we will see much more production out of DJ at the middle as well... Quincy Black would be a steal if we got him in the 2nd day. or even with our late 3rd, freak athlete who could contribute right away.

I will say Al Wilson is one of the most classiest Players ive ever heard about... "sometimes you have to let good employees go" when asked why he was let go... the guy thanked all the fans as well, and has no Beef with the organization.. Hope he succeeds somewhere else. what A great career as a Denver Bronco though.

first the Darrent Williams tragedy. and now we lose one of our top defensive leaders. I am going to miss the guy big time. very few people can do what he did and not be as classey as he was.
hope he can still play at least somewhere though.
