Other analysis of it aside, it's a pretty cool looking logo. If they're trying to sell that it's also a 5 - I mean, I know it's kinda there, but it's not super apparent. But sure.

Reminds me of the urban legend that if you ordered a 5-piece from the old McDonald's on Lake & State they would give you a 4-piece McNugget box with a nickel bag in it.

There are some other 4-star OL/DL types all waiting to (hopefully) commit from WI...so hopefully this is a nice run of building the lines even more as we usually do.

Ryan Ramczyk is now the highest-paid RT of all time. So put that on your recruiting one sheeter.

Decent designs. The plain logo shirt looks nice.

My fear with some of this - and mind you, I'm happy as hell for these kids they can finally use their own NIL - is that it will become a distraction for them. So hopefully they're able to work with someone and put this stuff on autopilot so they can focus on the field and just tweet about it occasionally. Are they able to work with agents now, too?

Yeah someone has to be advising him on all this. I know many pro athletes have two agents, one for contracts and one for memorabilia. So maybe these guys can have a business agent of some kind? Or maybe they just call them "advisors". With the season 2 months away I'd like to think Mertz is focusing on that and not spending a ton of time trying to make a few bucks. After his debut against IL he wasn't all that good, 4 TD's/5 INT's. Some Badger faithful will buy his stuff but I doubt there's much beyond that right now.

If Mertz doesn’t win a Big Ten title, or the National Championship, why would anyone buy his stuff?

Well Pandora's box is open. Far from a solution, and I expect many complications and distractions that lead to some controversies that coaching staffs and fans will hate very soon

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/31771563/dan-lambert-plans-500-month-endorsement-deal-every-miami-hurricanes-football-player-scholarship

That didn't take long. Every Miami football player will be offered $500 per month by a chain of gyms to Tweet ads for them. It's the equivalent of the guys on The Sopranos showing up to the job site once a month so they can get a pay stub that says they work in "construction".

Not long before Papa John gives every member of the Louisville basketball team $100k to tweet a pic of themselves with a slice of sausage and mushroom. I'm not saying it's wrong, just inevitable.

Even sooner than I thought.

The Future:

Reporter: Graham, tough day out there. 4 interceptions and a brutal loss. Any distractions ?

Graham: Absolutely not. But first I'd like to thank the fans for coming out to my t-shirt signings the last 7 days and logging in for the private video conferences the last 4 nights. And I'd like to thank Joe's Construction who is offering 1% off to Badger fans on homes over 4 million, Bill's Plumbing, Kotex, Tommy's Bar and Grille - home of the 64oz tapper and ladies night every Wednesday - and where you can find all of my merchandise. Also visit GMertz$$.com for all my upcoming events promoting - me. Also a reminder that my paypal is up and running again, and a big shout out to my contributors thus far.
Sorry guys, that's all the time I have right now - but meet me over at Big Beef Inn - home of the 48oz ribeye, tonight at 7pm for autograph signings and a t-shirt giveaway to a lucky ticketholder. Raffle tickets are 2/$10. Limited quantities, wink wink. On Wisconsin.

With social media, these guys can make way more money with a single tweet/insta post than by hocking t-shirts for a year.

Be good (or at least interesting)
Get followers.
Profit.

It’s the new economy.

If I were a low end player, I’d be **** posting opposing fans on Instagram like Skip Bayless to get followers and cash in on that.

Was ready to cringe. Most HS athletes I see lifting have really dangerous form.

Didn’t quite hit parallel but impressive AF nonetheless. Beast.

ETA: I take it back. He broke parallel. Super duper impressive.

He was recruited as a safety, was looking like a switch to OLB in his future, now may try RB because he impressed in the most recent season.

With the Chenal bros and Allen, there is a lot of beef on the team. Allen seems to be taking the Leon Jacobs on steroids (maybe literally) route.

This. Mertz could easily post 10 IG stories a week, 5 a piece for 2 different brands of his choosing, and come away with about 2 grand a week at 50k with good engagement numbers.

Badgers have a plethora of highly-rated OT recruits on their roster. I think they're all 6'7" or taller so I don't think they're moving to OG or OC (though I'd kinda like to see a 6'7" OC). I'm sure they won't all turn into 2+ year starters, but I'd think it would be a hard sell to recruit them.
