2017 offseason thread

i suppose we need one of these now, the great offensive line overhaul has begun

brandon fusco and mike harris have been released

too bad about harris, some mystery (to us) illness sidelined him for the entire year. hopefully he can get better and maybe get back to playing again

fusco wasn't right after his pectoral injury and i think having him switch to left guard for a year and then back didn't help. seems like a fairly big statement for the team to essentially say they are moving on from him with three years left on the deal but there you are

darrell hazell is going to be our new wr coach

as a big ten fan and having seen hazell be a head coach i'm not inspired but maybe he's good with wrs

Don't know who he is. Kind of a dead time of the year but we'll need to sign some offensive lineman and hopefully find an explosive playmaker at RB whether AP is gone or not.

sounds like patterson's price tag might be around $4m a year

would you guys keep him for that? best kick returner in the league (where there are dwindling opportunities due to rule changes) and maybe the 3rd/4th best wr on the team?

I don't know. The big thing is trying to fix the offensive line, and I have no idea how they are going to that. Once they have that figured out, I would love to have AP and CP back for what we can afford.

sounds like we're getting riley rieff from detroit. solid average guy, but that's better than what we had so that's good. i like him because he went to iowa

doesn't seem to be clear whether he'll be left or right tackle, he played both at detroit. no word on the money either

matt kalil sounds like he's going to carolina (to be with his brother). thought i saw it was for like 5 years, $55 some million with a fair amount guaranteed
jeff locke signed with the colts

We need at least one more lineman in free agency, probably 2.

I really like Alshon Jeffery but wouldn't have considered receiver a need unless Treadwell really should be considered a nonfactor.

signed mike remmers to a deal (looks like we swapped tackles with carolina, ha) worth $30m

rieff and remmers aren't big names but they are solid guys who are better than tj clemmings so i'm happy with this. sign a few of our other guys and maybe get a guard and this is a successful free agency i think

patterson wants to come back it seems and eddie lacy was/is visiting

lacy would probably be a good compliment for mckinnon but man bringing in ex-packers is tough

although lacy always killed us (and no one else it seems) so maybe that's the idea

Murray signed.

We ll see on Murray, he wasn't nothing special over in Oakland. But he is bigger and a obvious upgrade over McKinnon. Maybe all Murray needed was a change of scenario to really unleash his potential.

He's fine, but you're right that he's nothing special. I have a feeling this team will be pretty mediocre again next year.

he can pass block from what i understand

anyway, i like the signing. he won't light the world on fire probably but i think this is a signal the vikings are moving away from the power running game of adrian's heyday and shifting to what most of the rest of the nfl is doing with a pass first offense (so we don't need the running game to be much more than complimentary anyway)
