How do Indiana fans feel about being Buyers? They have the assets and the expiring salary.

We did buy Brown in the off season. I imagine we could still be a buyer but it probably wouldn't be someone we chose not to buy in the summer. I don't think we're ready to give up on Obi or Walker but PF is the need

I'm thinking more of one or more of their 1sts this year, not actual valuable bodies like Walker. Obi isn't really a long-term piece for Indiana.

We have two firsts and TJ and Theis could be let go to create the roster spaces. I can see adding our lower first to a deal that moved one of them for a keeper. We'd still have a veteran to be replaced by a pick.

I think Indy will be “opportunistic”, but I don’t think Indy will be rounding the league trying to shake expensive guys free, if that makes sense. But if someone that can play both 3/4 (with long term team control) shakes free at an affordable price, I bet they would want to jump in.

To be completely honest,. I can't see it. I think Scoop is right. They will be 'opportunistic'. If there is a deal that definitely improves the outlook for the long term, they could make a move. However, we probably won't be adding a body, just to add a body, because they have potential. We are already very deep, not just with players, but with players that both need and have earned playing time. We also have a number of young players that need a chance to prove their game & commitment.

I think the team, at some point, will start to look at potential consolidation trades, that could make them a buyer. Again, I think they like where they are (at this point), would be really picky, and it would have to clearly move the needle for the team for more than the immediate season or next.

So, very slim chance, but, with the right opportunity, it's possible?

Indiana has in the past seemed to prefer players with a little NBA history behind them to draft picks, so anything could be on the table.

Not so sure that Ob1 isn't a long term piece for Indiana. How he fits into the roster and the rotation may not look like they do now, but he is young (was 25 in March), still have some real untapped upside, and fits the style, pace, scheme that the Pacers currently employ. I do think he was a bit over-hyped coming to Indiana, but we haven't really seen what he is, or can be with this team.

In terms of Indiana, the Pacers are a perfect theoretical home for Anunoby given his age and ability to help an awful defensive team … but he’s also a flight risk if they trade for him right now. I don’t see Indiana putting enough on the table to tempt Toronto when the Pacers can have max cap room this summer, and I don’t see them as a home for Siakam given his age. I’d expect the Pacers to make calls and kick tires, but there isn’t urgency on their end.

On the other hand, I see less risk in waiting for Toronto because A) other teams could join the fray at some point, and B) these teams would be dealing with more than this season in mind. Any team trading anything of value for Anunoby or Siakam is doing it intending to re-sign them to a long-term deal (or perhaps doing an extend-and-trade in the case of Siakam), and thus their specific position in the standings is of less import than their long-term picture in the out years.

Lots of of Pacers mentions:
1) interest in Siakam
2) more interest in OG, though
3) some interest from playoff contenders in McConnell as a bench guard
4) offseason talks about DeAndre Hunter to Indy

Today's dunc'd on. One of the names that John heard, at the G League showcase, as a 'player to watch', for an upcoming trade this season was Bruce Brown of the Pacers. (~41:00 mark) They are also including OB1 as a player likely to be traded, as he is no longer starting, and now doesn't seem to be in the Pacers longer term plans - according to them (~41:35 mark).

Likely sellers in the East,.. Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta - but none of them have actually made any decisions about what directions they want to go.

Likely sellers in the West,...Utah and Portland.

Buyers in the West,... Houston, LA Lakers, Phoenix, & likely Dallas.

Comments on Walker in the showcase, 'was good, but didn't really Wow them with anything in the final. Was much better in the 2 prior games.

one game is a small sample size to say he isn't starting.

Agree completely,... it's also a really small sample size to say that he isn't in the teams long term plans.

It was an interesting listen,... (as 2 sportswriters),...it was difficult to pick apart what they had actually heard from some source, and just 'spit-ball' ideas, or their opinions? some of the ideas or opinions, they as much said, they would be covering in a future article. As often gets theorized on these web-pages, makes me wonder how much of the 'reporting' is real? and how much is nothing, but will make a good headline?....

LOL,.. nope 10 years,.. BUT,... the cops let them go because there was enough evidence that the other guys started it, escalated it, and the players were within Indiana's standards for self defense. =}

Is this where we talk trades? I'm going to just assume it is since I looked around for a trade thread and the last one was on page 3 for last year.

I like Pascal Siakam as a player, but I don't think he makes any sense for us as a target. I get kicking the tires on a deal, but the problem I think is that we have to give up Hield or Brown to match salaries and both are important for us. I'm also not too thrilled about the idea of committing to giving Siakam a max contract. I think that kind of locks us into being a good, not great, team. I'd prefer to maintain flexibility and see what shakes out.

I'd love to go after the GS youngsters in Kuminga and Moody, but their cheap contracts kind of make any deal challenging though I guess it depends on what GS is looking for. Guys like Nesmith, Jalen Smith, and IJax are similarly cheap and maybe more serviceable as plug-and-play role players. I'd much prefer sending out picks for those guys than spending big on Siakam.

Keep our cap space for a deal in the offseason and try to turn up guys we can send through the Indy MIP path going forward.
