Up by 18 points, with a 1st and 10 and 4.5 minutes remaining.
Time to start pulling some key players

Kyle says nah, I'll just keep exposing Deebo to more unnecessary hits

And now Kyle calls a pass play for Deebo behind the LOS and he takes more unnecessary hits.

I mean seriously, why are Bosa/Warner/etc even on the field for that last meaningless play? What's the point, there is no upside to it.
Do they contract escalators based on snap counts or something?

This was a big win. Sets up the 49ers with nice playoff positioning.
They now hold tiebreakers over Atlanta/Minnesota/Philadelphia. Also currently hold the tiebreaker on LA with another head to head matchup remaining with the Rams

Re: 49ers vs. Falcons GDT
They really need to figure something out at CB. They can't keep using Ambry Thomas, especially not as an every down player. Moseley is eligible to comeback for the Texans game in week 17, although its not currently known if his ankle will be healed up enough by then. But His return will help.
I mentioned earlier that the Vikings recently waived Bashaud Breeland. 9ers should definitely put in a waiver claim on him, and hope they get him. He's not a world beater, but he's worlds better than Ambry Thomas. Even when he'd be coming in with no familiarity with the defensive system.

Agree with that. And get the special teams improved. They're killing us.

Re: 49ers vs. Falcons GDT
Much needed win as that basically eliminates the Falcons as a team that could potentially take our playoff spot.
Saints winning was unfortunate as the rest of their schedule isn't tough and we don't own a head to head tiebreaker with them like we do with the Eagles and Vikings.
But I'll still stick to saying we just need to win 1 out of the next 3 to get a playoff spot. In that scenario Vikings and Eagles would need to win out to get to 10 wins to beat our 9 wins which leaves the Saints and WFT being the plausible two teams that could bounce us out. Saints can probably win 2 out of their next 3 to get to 9 wins but I don't think it's likely for Washington to win 3 out of it's 4 last games to claim our spot.

The head-to-head tie-breaker only applies if one team has played all the other teams with the same record and is undefeated or winless. If the Saints have the same record as us, that tie-breaker is out the window. After that, it's conference record, where we have a slight lead at 6-5, but with some expectation of falling to 6-6 if we lose to the Rams. We're still in good shape for the playoffs, but we could easily be the last seed based on tie-breaking.

Re: 49ers vs. Falcons GDT
In terms of the game itself, a few quick thoughts.
First and foremost, this was a big game that we absolutely had to win to firm up our playoff prospects, and they came away with an 18-point win despite some pretty significant self-inflicted injuries. The offense played well until we were in clock-killing mode (though it's worrisome we didn't play well in clock-killing mode against a bad defense), and the DL was dominant. There were a lot of positives. Our playmakers made plays, and our QB avoided untimely turnovers.
That said, although this team is dangerous and I don't think anyone will want to face them in the playoffs, this was far from a complete game. STs are just flat-out awful. It may be something different every week (though there are plenty of repeated mistakes), but it seems like every single game lately there has been at least one, potentially game-altering blunder. That's to to along with just awful coverage units, and a kicker who can't seem to put it through the endzone (granted I'm fairly certain Wishnowsky was kicking off yesterday, so technically a punter). We need to kick through the endzone every time. Our coverage is just too much of a liability.
And the return units are marginally better. Teams know we're so bad on STs that they are deliberately kicking in the field of play, knowing we won't be able to get past the 15 - and may flub the kick of fumble. Aiyuk has been a good PR, generally speaking, but only once he has the ball in his hands. I've just never seen a guy let so many punts hit the ground. And his penchant for playing it off the carpet is going to bite us in the ass one of these days. We've got to clean that up. And we need a new STs coach in the offseason.
Not many complaints about the offense overall, other than - as has been mentioned a bunch above - running Deebo into the middle of the defense over and over when the game is already in the bag. WTF is Shanahan thinking? I don't know that a dive play is every the right call for Deebo, but I'm absolutely certain that running it three or four times in the final five minutes of a game we are winning by 18 is not the right time. Hell, I didn't even want Bosa to come back in the game. Shanahan is a great designer of plays, but he sure makes some really odd decisions at times. Couldn't help but reflect on how poorly he managed Lance in his only start.
The defense generally played really well, but the CBs are a disaster. I declared the season over after Verrett went down in week one. I've come around a bit on that since, but it's just such a huge difference. If we could go into the playoffs with Verrett, Moseley, and Williams as our three top CBs, I'd feel like we could at least hang with any team in the league. But Josh Norman and Ambry Thomas are garbage. I will note that I don't think Norman was to blame for the most glaring play into his general area - the safety - Ward, I think - bit on the run fake and didn't get back to help in the middle of the field. But he's still bad. Thomas reminded me so much of Chris Culliver in this game. He was in pretty good position much of the time, but just incapable of playing the ball.
Honestly, in some ways I was actually a bit encouraged by Thomas in this game. He was in phase most of the time, and he was looking back for the ball, he just wasn't making plays on it. Hopefully that will come as he continues to develop. He's still shaking off rust after a year away from the game and minimal live action until a couple weeks ago. But right now? He's a huge liability.
Because of the weaknesses on the back end, the Falcons did a pretty good job of moving the ball on us - granted at least once due to an absolutely absurd roughing penalty. The goal-line stands were awesome, but they won't be goal-line stands against better teams. They'll be TDs.
All in all (and I realize not that short), big win, but we've still got some serious work to do. This team still doesn't consistently execute, and I'm starting to think it never will under Shanahan.
