Post#1 » by thesack12 » Sun Jan 22, 2023 2:18 pm

Exact same injury report as going into last week.

Garppolo out
Ambry Thomas out

Everybody else is ready to rock.

Janoris Jenkins & Alex Barrett elevated from the practice squad.

Lets get this W, and take care of step #2 to bringing home Lombardi #6

Gonna be an interesting chess match. Since Purdy took over, Kyle has been passing more on first downs, I suppose because defense's are geared up to stop the run. Will that continue? We should be able to run on them so will Kyle emphasize that to slow down their pass rush?

With two extra days to prepare, I expect some new wrinkles for the boys.. niners win 27-17.

Per DVOA this is a battle of the best two defenses in the NFL. (SF 1, Dallas 2)

An interesting nugget is despite being great overall, each defense struggles in one specific area.

SF is 23rd against the pass on 3rd downs
Dallas is 32nd against #2 receivers.

Niners will need to someone else to step up and help Bosa get after the QB, to help alleviate their weakness. Omenihu had a strong game against Dallas in last year's playoffs, hopefully he can bookend that with another good performance today.

Not sure who SF's #2 receiver is. Some weeks its Aiyuk, some weeks its Deebo, some weeks its Kittle. Then you have CMC who can be a top dawg in the passing game as well. I don't think it matters what the hierarchy is, 9ers are stacked with dangerous weapons so they should be able to exploit Dallas' weakness against secondary receivers.

We have to stay out of third and long. While our O-line has done better in pass protection of late, I don't have confidence that we can keep Purdy upright when Dallas knows he has to throw. Screen passes and lots of check-downs will likely be a key staple of our passing offense against Dallas.

Yup, Dallas' pass rush is probably the biggest concern going into this game.

They are #1 in pressure %age and #2 in sack %age.

SF's O-line is actually #3 in pass block efficiency. So they seem to match up fairly well. Although we have seen many instances this year where the line allows free, unblocked rushers.

Last week the O-line gave Purdy the most pocket time of any QB with at least 25 pass attempts in any game this season. Which is obviously great. If the O-line can get within earshot of that level of play again today, 9ers should be in good shape.

Purdy has also shown a good ability to extend plays by evading initial pressure and do some nice off schedule stuff. We'll need more of that today.

Luckily he is much better than Jimmy with getting out of the pocket and avoiding the rush a bit.

Yeah, run game needs to get on track early.

Last week CMC had that 1 explosive run early, but if you took that out; in the 1st half CMC was at like 1 yard per carry and Mitchell had negative yards.

Got to come out of the gate humming today. Best way to combat a good pass rush, is having a strong running game.

It's not really a stretch to say we have 4 #1 receivers. If they were able to limit one of our guys but the other 3 have good days we will be fine. We don't have to have one particular receiver have a great day.

My gut tells me the Niners can get this one 31-21, maybe 31-24.

If Purdy stops under throwing our receivers this game will be an easy outing.
