Canucks deal Schneider to Devils

The Canucks traded Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils for the ninth pick in the NHL draft, leaving Roberto Luongo as the starting goalie.

“Today’s decision was made after a thorough review of our options and in the interest of improving this team long-term through the draft and development of players,” general manager Mike Gillis said in a statement. “We appreciate the high level of professionalism and conduct both Cory and Roberto have shown while continuing to help this team be competitive. I would like to personally thank Cory for his contributions to our team and wish him the very best and a bright future.”

Gillis said he “had to listen” to offers on Schneider. The one he took got the Canucks London Knights forward Bo Horvat at No. 9.

Love the move for the Devils. Brodeur's got maybe one more season left in him and Schneider's an up and coming star in net.

I don't think this is as bad for Canucks as some people are making it out to be. Horvat's a great prospect and they do have another solid goalie in the pipeline in Eddie Lack. They need to get rid of Luongo's contract eventually but they can still buy him out next summer.

Its bad considering what they could have gotten. Apparently could have gotten 3 high level prospects out of the Oilers, but thats understandable considering they are in the same division. They made the mistake of holding on to both goalies for too long and demanding too much for luongo. They'd be in a much better situation now if they had moved out luongo much earlier

Apparently we offered #6, #37 and a high level prospect, probably one of our d-men prospects.

Gillis probably didnt want to trade him within the conference.

They shouldve taken Nichuskin (Spelling?).

Screwing yourself to not maybe better another team is the dumbest concept in pro sports

Yikes...I don't understand how you can turn down that package and accept just#9

If it was just the 6 and something else than maybe...but all that...I'd jump on that in a heartbeat

Yeah...Vancouver blew this. One pick for Schneider and going back to Roberto as your guy? Have fun

The Canucks could not have handled this situation any more idiotically.
