Free Agent Frenzy 2012

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu Jun 28, 2012 4:41 pm

Free agency is only three days away and with some big names set to hit the market it could be an interesting couple days.

I love how the Justin Shultz sweepstakes is gaining more steam than that of Suter or Parise. Whoever gets him is going to get an absolute gem.

Wings are very much in the hunt. Should be our backup plan if Suter goes elsewhere

EDIT: welp just read that we aren't on Schultz's short list of teams. whoops. Apparently he wants to play in Canada. Ignore above

Flames overpaid Wideman when they should have spent the summer rebuilding....

And Tuuka Rask ($3.5M) just made Cory Schneider a very rich man.

Sounds like Brodeur's going to test the free agent market. I really don't get why New Jersey's so hesitant to resign him. They have no one waiting behind and there aren't exactly a ton of quality starters available via free agency right now.

I think its the fact their owner is trying to avoid bankruptcy by finding some new investors.

Reading that list, I thought Souray re-signed with Dallas for one year?

I just want the Habs to lock up Shane Doan. He'd fit absolutely perfect and his cousin is already on the team. Think they should go after Tootoo after letting Staubitz go today, too.

Souray turned down a 1 year offer, looking for multiple years.

Huh. In that case I would add him on to the list of guy's I'd like to see in Montreal. Either move Kaberle or bury him in the minors; if we're going to have a guy that's useless defensively, I want him to at least contribute on the PP like Souray would.

Really? I like it. Great penalty killer, great faceoff guy, big physical presence and he can put up a few points. Excellent third line center.

Plus the Preds gave up a first for him so they kinda had to resign him.

Re-signing him for 3.25 for 4 years makes that trade look even worse. This signing just made guys like Burish and Prust a lot more money.

I think its completely your second point. In no world should Gaustad make what Jarret Stoll makes. Gaustad has value to a team, but is a 4th liner IMO.

Canes inked Jordan Staal to a 10 year $60 mil deal. Not sure how much they have to go after an FA at this point. The Raleigh papers think they will be active, but I dont know.

Wings snag the Monster for a couple years to backup Jimmy. I like it but I'll admit I don't catch many leafs games
