This is exactly why a GM should always put business above emotions. If there is any truth that Riley was willing to give up that many pieces, I’m thrilled the idiot from Portland couldn’t see talent

Love seeing triple J having a career night today. Heat’s future looks bright with Herro, Bam, DRob and Bam

Are we championship favorites right now?

As much as I love Dame adding him wasn't making us the betting favorite. Before Bucks added Dame they were 3rd in odds to win the finals at +600. Adding Dame got them as the favorite at +360. At that point we were +1600 and when the Dame to Miami news heated up our odds changed to +900 which would have had us at 5th.

Dame alone clearly no. The crippled roster needed a lot of work.

He's not going to win ROY, but is clearly 3rd in that race. I have it Holmgren - Wembanyama - JJJ.

Interesting that if not for a generational prospect and a guy missing his rookie season we would have drafted ROY at 18.

Are we getting to a point where Jamie HAS TO be a closer and log 30+ minutes a night?

I'd say Jimmy Bam and Herro are locks, If we add JJJ that leaves one open closer spot to a Duncan/Highsmith/Lowry/Martin.

I don't think that is the question. The question may now be how will he be used in the closing mins? Will he run point or post or being the corner?

Betting favorites probably not because we’re Miami and we’re hated, if you know ball we were though. We were adding Dame and losing Strus Gabe (maybe) and Lowry from last seasons playoff run. I’ll take those odds.

No, but giving up all that talent for dame doesnt get us closer to that either..

Whats crazy to me is, JJJ was the clear cut target for weeks prior to the draft.. we basically let the whole NBA know we are taking him with our pick.. the rest of the NBA was like thats such a reach.. okay.. now he is a ROTY candidate while portland fans have a thread on this board questioning it Scoot is a bust..

Jaquez Jr. is only the fifth rookie in league history with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds on Christmas Day. The only other rookies to do so were Wilt Chamberlain, Patrick Ewing, Walt Bellamy, and Oscar Robertson.

Strus and Gabe were already gone chasing a check. Portland wanted to receive a package to the value of Ayton, Jrue, and bunch of picks.

So who do you think we would have had to give up if PDX were willing to trade with us? I think we'd be without supporting players save for Love. Strus and Gabe don't count, they were already gone chasing a check.

It's tricky because we really dont have valuable assets outside of Bam and Butler. It would take every pick we have and even then our picks dont have the same gravity as other team picks. The interesting thing about supporting players is that if we are being honest, thats our strength. Every year we get some scrub basically off the street, undrafted and make him into an NBA player in our system. It's close to impossible to do that with a real star, a difference maker. Dame here and we are favorite.

Basically the same thing happened with Caron Butler and Yao.

I’m not sure how we keep getting back to this point. If we could pull a Milwaukee and just swap out point guards, sure we might be favored to come out of the East. Reality is based on the Miami tax that Portland wanted us to pay we’d be closer in roster construction to Phoenix than any team that is a guaranteed favorite.
