So apparently, part of the reason the Hawks weren't against trading away Teravainen was because many in the Hawks' brass questioned his work ethic. So that does make more sense now.

Fair enough then, I guess. So are you guys predicting many more trades? Or do you think we'll fill out a lot of the roster with prospects?

I think if a trade(s) is made, it's to subtract money and not add. So yes, prospects and 1 year small deals for vets other than re-signing Shaw.

Shaw goes to Montreal for 2 second rounders. Wouldn't budge off $4.5 mil

Blackhawks Off Season Thread

Thanks for the prospect info mate. I'd also love to see DeBrincat light up up and burst onto the scene like a Patrick Kane type, as well as Schmaltz. Overall though I'll make sure I don't get my hopes up. I'm just hoping that we see s lot of development and positive signs across the board, which is more realistic expectations than expecting a kid to jump straight into NHL-level hockey.

Aside from Kempny who will most likely make the big club, probably at least two other of these youngsters will make the final cut to the NHL as forwards.

I'm interested to see how the forward lines are put together. I mean the second line should be kept the way it is, and a lot of reports all seem to think Panik will take the LW spot on the first line. Then it looks like Tootoo will probably take over Shaw's role on that dough shutdown line with Desjardins and Kruger.

That would leave us with:

Panik - Toews - Hossa
Panarin - Anisimov - Kane
? - ? - ?
Desjardins - Kruger - Tootoo

Now I have heard it suggested though that maybe with Hoss starting to slow down, maybe we could move him down to the third line do he's not relied on as much. What do you guys think of that idea?

Also, if we did that, I'd like to see Schultz get the C spot on that third line, as I think playing alongside a big guy and a solid, experienced vet like Hossa would be a great benefit to him as he adjusts to NHL level. That'd leave us with something like:

Panik - Toews - ? (Fleischmann?)
Panarin - Anisimov - Kane
? - Schultz - Hossa
Desjardins - Kruger - Tootoo

I honestly don't mind that lineup, and you could go a couple of ways with it. Assuming we re-sign Fleischmann or someone similar, we could have him on the first line and then someone like Motte on the third line. That'd have two kids (Schultz and Motte) playing alongside a great vet who they can learn from and will take pressure off of them. On the other hand, we could put a kid like Motte on the first line and put Fleischmann in the third line, meaning Schultz then has two experienced vets to support him (Fleischmann and Hossa).

I know we won't really find out anything until we get into camp and further towards the season, but I'm curious what you guys think of our options and what you'd like to see?

Hard to figure out which thread to put some of this stuff in. Especially if the subject matter is a roster move of a prospect in the off season. Regardless, as to some possible lineups, here's six possible ....

Good point mate. I'll set up a thread for lineup predictions.

Fortin just reassigned to juniors. I guess that means Schmaltz and Motte are both making the roster.
