Around the NHL

Figured we should have a thread where we can discuss anything happening around the rest of the NHL. I know there's the general hockey board, but I'm mainly interested in hearing what other Hawks fans have to say anyway.

The Red Wings have signed Daniel Alfredsson, or at least agreed to a deal. Not sure that this is a wise move for Detroit. They already have an old-ish team, with some of their best players like Zetterberg and Datsyuk already being on the wrong side of 30. I guess that their reasoning is probably that Alfredsson still has something left in the tank and can team with the other established vets to make a run in the short-term. However, if I was running that team, I'd be focusing more on adding young talent.

Well just to gauge where the blackhawks are at this point of the season.
They are number 1 in the west with 60 points. and lead their division by 7 points.

Their most recent recent game is 7-2 win vs colorado at the UC and Sharpie had a hat trick.

The Bears forum is similar. This is a basketball website mostly right? i think its understandable that traffic is slow on whats basically sub forums.

Yeah, I think RealGM started as a basketball site with forums for other sports on the side. Still, as the mod, I haven't been around as much as I should have for a while. Going to be around a lot more regularly, especially now that I have the GameCenter package and can actually watch the games.

watching LA vs ananheim game 1. Golatending is the only real reason LA is still in this game. The ducks were going HAM on opportunities but to close out the 2nd period it was actually LA finally getting the puck out of their zone and actually getting some scoring chances.

LA forced overtime with 7 second left which is nice. In ot and the 3rd period LA taking too many shots from their defenseman.
They are basically settling for one -timers from their defenseman. They are putting decent pressure but i think they have to get better opportunities than that.

And just like that the kings take game 1. im not a kings fan but id prefer the hawks to play them because they look less physical, the hawks would have home ice vs them , and the hawks have experience vs them.

The Ducks lose home ice. At the very least i want the loser to beat the hell out of the winner. Of course the hawks gotta take care of their series.

I'd rather face LA as well. The Ducks worry me more as a team, whereas it's goaltending that is mainly keeping them alive, and we've shown that we can defeat great goalies in the St. Louis series.

Like you said though, it doesn't mean a thing unless we take care of Minnesota.

Go Kings?--at least tonight for sure
Kings should be easier. Forecheck dump and chasers.
We always worry about the hits/physicality but those teams typically have no real skill and good goalies.
Only thing with Anaheim is the goaltending is more likely to choke than Quick. he can actually get crazy hot and we can outshoot the crap out of them and then lose on a few mistakes.
Guess we take the home ice if possible

And not to get too far ahead but the east is potentially lining up treal nice-if Montreal wins :D

Montreal does win. La with a huge lead in game 7. Looks like the hawks are getting home ice in the WCF.

Just read an article about the FBI investigating threats made against Nick Leddy on social media. Most of the time you just laugh at idiot tough guys online, so for the feds to be investigating it, there must be something more substantial to it. Have any of you guys heard anything about what this situation is about?

Yeah, apparently some stalker (speculation) was harassing Leddy & his family on Twitter posting pictures of Leddy's driver's license & a credit card they had somehow come in contact with and sending threatening messages. They also did the same with another unnamed teammate and it was going on for a few months. The Twitter account has been suspended and the FBI said Leddy & his family are safe. They didn't go in to detail as if this person is from Minnesota, Illinois or New York.

It sounds like a woman who had met Leddy in some capacity (not romantically) and kept posting pictures of her and him.
