Wolves vs Pelicans, 1/3, Game Thread

Post#1 » by thinktank » Wed Jan 3, 2024 6:07 pm

Wanted to start this to say I really hope to see some friggin ball movement! The Knicks, of all teams, KILLED us with ball movement last game. When we isolate too much, we enable teams to tank up energy and rest on D. You can’t win many games that way!

The solution starts with Edwards and then KAT, because they’re the guys isolating the most.

Run the sets! We did it for the first 20 or so games just fine.

That’s all I got.

Finch mentioned that in either the post game or training interview so I'm interested to see if they get back to more structure too.

Pelicans on the back end of a back-to-back. They beat BRK by 27, and nobody played over 26 minutes, so I hope everyone is playing, and we can beat them fair-and-square. Trey Murphy is day-to-day.

I believe he actually mentioned it in both places.

Caught the post-game presser and the good neighbor had a choice Finch quote about it from practice.

Good test after a 3/4 bad game in NY. We see if we can pur more disciplin in the game. I hope KAT is back to his level and ANT be focus on scoring , defense. Mike also was really bad last night, He will bounce back.

Last year on today, January 3:
The New Orleans Pelicans were third in the West and 1.0 game out of first. They lost the 9/10 game in the Play-In Tournament.

Big game. Zion tore us apart, there seems to a rend of physical power forwards giving us fits. The Pelicans are very dangerous but they are also very inconsistent. Let's get back to our winning ways tonight with a good all around performance. Don't let Zion get 40.

We win with physical defense, we lose when we lack physicality in our defense. Last time the refs backed us off and Zion took full advantage. This time I suspect we won’t be screwed to the tune of 40-16 free throws and we will be just fine. Especially with a rest advantage and coming off a loss.

Murphy being out helps a ton. As does the back-to-back. Still a tough matchup for the Wolves. Have to contain their bigs on the perimeter.

We cut down the turnovers it will be a huge help to our offense. We also need to be tough on the glass. Those two things aloe will make a dramatic difference in how we look.

Zion many times pushing our defender away with his off hand. Why are our opponents allowed to do this game after game after game and we are not?

Same story so far, foul central, can't do anything to stop Zion and he just walks to the line. This is becoming a trend and a big problem with us and guarding aggressive bigs in the paint.

Why the crowding of Zion from the three point line?

Watch Zion when he gets the ball. Every single time he will push our defenders away with his off hand. Not just once in a while. Every time he gets the ball. He won't get called for it unless he takes a full swing I guess.

Teams have adjusted how they defend us. They realize we are limited offensively and now they aren't respecting our outside shot, they are packing the paint and making KAT and Ant drive and both of them are prone to turning the ball over. It's a great result for other teams when Towns is attacking 4 defenders off the drive and racks up a charge. This offense needs to be retooled or we at least need to hit more shots from three.

Nothing wrong with our outside shooting. KAT, ANT, Conley, Naz, Jaden, NAW all shoot fine from outside.

We definitely lack outside shooting and spacing, particularly when it comes to being a really good offense. It's fine for an ok offense.
