Official Game Thread: NYR VS. FLA ~ 7PM

Tonight is the season opener @MSG and the Rangers are playing the Panthers.

I think the Panthers are just going to be over whelmed, by the Rangers offensive firepower.

My Pick: 4-1 Rangers.

I wasn't too far off with my prediction.

Drury was great, with the goal and two assits.

This is a good omen for the Rangers.

Perhaps.

The one thing I didn't like was that the second line did nothing. To be honest, I always thought Gomez was a bit overrated and I would have preferred Nylander and Drury to what we have now. I know that's not consensus, but the only thing that impresses me about Gomez is his skating. I hope proves me wrong though.

Malik had 3 assists, and Jags had 2. Also Staal made his much awaited debut.

Also I think having Leetchie drop the puck was a great/nice/nostalgic touch.

It is the first game. Be patient.

God I've missed hockey. Nice win. Our offense is going to be great this year.

I'm saying that when he was with the Devils, I thought he was overrated. I'm not judging him on tonight's game, more or less pointing out that tonight's "good omen" wasn't perfect.

I know it seems like I am splitting hairs here, but I want a cup and I'll be scrutinizing details here. If these details don't work themselves out, the team may not get through Pittsburgh, let alone San Jose.

Another thing that bothers me is the cap. I don't think Montoya should be on the roster now, but come March I want him on the club for playoff insurance and to give Lundqvist a break. Montoya's cap charge is too big for that to happen though, so the club is going to have to make a minor salary dump (about $700,000) for that to happen. I'm not sure if that is possible though.
