The problem wasnt that they lacked fundamentals. The problem was they just lacked hitting. It is pointless to talk about fundamentals when your lineup is filled with 4-5 .200 hitters.

Why was Trevino, who can't hit his way out of a paper bag, not trying to advance the leadoff runner in the 8th inning by bunting? Why is Gleyber swinging out of his shoes in each of his at bats instead of looking for the base hit? Why is Judge chasing every pitch out of the strike zone instead of working the count like he's done his entire career? The reason why most of our hitters are batting .200 is because they refuse to do those fundamental things and are going by what Cashman and his team are coaching them to do, which is to hit 430 ft bombs. Even a guy like Soto, who is known for his plate discipline and offensive prowess, is starting to regress a bit because he is becoming a victim of this horrible hitting culture that has plagued the team for years.

Yeah. Thank goodness the Yankees saved on avoiding the tax by adding length to his contract. $15 million a year for this and two more years clogging up Hal's precious salary cap.
