I will be so happy after the Magic play Brooklyn so we can forget this game. A game like this is really hard to comment on, other than to say "an egg was laid".

If not Jett, then definitely not Caleb because of the above reasons. If not Jett, you probably need to root for us to trade for our shooter, which is my position since I don't own any Jett stock either. I rest my case.

Jokic was drafted in the 2nd round. Can you stop with this nonsense? Caleb is not Jokic, but when he is doing what he has been asked to do - shooting 3s IN NBA, you should hope he can keep and improve his level, not referring to his performance in GL or his draft position 2 years ago.
Jokic is an extreme outlier. There are always diamonds in the ruff but the odds Caleb is a diamond are pretty low, ya know? The odds Jett is a diamond are much higher, ya know?

This is just not at all accurate to say as fact.

The Magic could have been the only team willing to draft Jett Howard in the first 25 picks for all we know man.

Again, it's a fact in terms of holding evaluation ability constant. Same evaluators, different draft positions, different probabilities to hit diamond status.

1/ It doesnt matter that much, but at least five players picked in the 2nd round have made all star game in the past 10 years.

2/ I dont expect or need Caleb to be a diamond, just a guy that can knock down 3s on high volume (and he is almost there) and have acceptable level of defense (not there yet, but maybe halfway). Miami always have couple of those guys and they find them in the 2nd round, undrafted an so on...

I stand by what I've said multiple times already. The NBA draft is not like the NFL draft. There's not a significant amount of movement up or down the draft board most drafts like there is in the NFL. Teams often decide to stay where they are and just make their picks.

But I 100% believe what I said.

If the Magic had been picking 20th last year instead of 11th, Jett would have likely gone 20th. If they had been picking 25th in 2022 instead of 32nd, Houstan would have likely gone 25th and this entire narrative of "oh well they clearly valued one guy as a lotto pick and one guy as a 2nd round scrub!" would be out the door.

Fair enough, I don't really see anything wrong with that view even if it's a bit of a stretch from what actually happened.

Jett height is exaggerated, he's not even as tall as AB. He's a guard. In fact he's listed as a shooting guard off google.

Caleb is legit a big guy. He's a forward.

There is nothing to compare or fight about lol. Caleb would replace Ingles and Jett could replace Harris. Caleb has lights out open shooter potential with his height and perfect release. Jett has some potential as an overall scorer. Similar to what RJ hamptons potential was, but hopefully much better than him and what he turned out to be.

And as a Fultz fan last season, he just shouldn't be playing. He does nothing out there. Doesn't even handle the ball much anymore.

This game really showed me that Paolo Banchero should be getting MVP votes. Without him, the Magic are an entirely different team and honestly struggle to be competitive. Not knocking the rest of the roster. It just evinces the importance of Banchero to this team. That's my silver lining on what is otherwise a slightly deflating loss.

Houstan is a fine shooter, however outside of taking threes he doesn't do much - no drives, no cuts, lack of movement without the ball. No lock down defense seen as well. At this point he is barely a rotation player.
On paper Jett is much better all around dude, hopefully he will show it next season.

Not sure. If you watch him when he gets playing time, he is all over the place. He's constantly moving and cutting. He doesn't really drive though. He is a catch and shoot player, which we need. He only plays off ball. I rarely see him bring the ball up.

Isaac was probably scared initially when he went down in pain.

Great news that it didn't turn into anything significant.

Knightro wrote:If the Magic drafted Jett with the intention of not playing him at all and basically sending him to the friggin G-League all season, then he shouldn’t have been the pick in the first place. Not with the 11th overall pick.

It’s obvious that Houstan, who isn’t all that great in his own right, beat him out.

There’s no reason for Houston or Okeke or Trevelin freaking Queen to have logged a single minute ahead of Jett, yet all three of them are ahead of him on the pecking order when there’s injuries and guys out of the lineup.

Who should have been the pick if the intention was for them to get most of their minutes from the G-League? Or would you have preferred they trade the pick for a ready-now player?

Seems to me that the Magic are making Lakeland a real factor in the franchise and player development. They’re getting guys to buy into spending time down there and eventually getting rewarded with solid opportunities in the actual league. Even the guys in the main rotation cheer hard for our G-League call ups. I think it’s telling that Jett isn’t in shape to play more with the pros yet, but he can see from the way Houstan, Okeke and Queen have been treated that he’ll get his shot if he keeps working hard.

Personally, I love how much we’ve incorporated our depth this season even if Jett hasn’t been given much of a chance because I like Houstan, I like Queen’s hustle, I like that Okeke has become a fairly competent connector piece. I’d like to see Jett and Mac get some of those opportunities next season if they’re still with us.

Correct me if I'm wrong but every injury to Isaac I remember was a result of an offensive move. I want him to play with freedom as much as anyone but maybe he should calm down on the side steps, euro steps, jump stops, etc.
