Firmino and Milner starting. Is this Klopp prioritizing the game vs Real or just him continuing to go the 'safe' way selecting the old guys? Makes no sense what-so-ever to play Firmino over Jota and why isn't he giving Keita minutes instead of Milner?!

I hate the blue. The kit manager should toss them after the game. Big bonfire.

Obviously better than Arsenal, but with a disability to be dangerous. Milner can't even hit the goal anymore - Trent and Robbo can't find a man on the cross. Firmino somehow finds the wrong position every time. Mané is world class outside the peleton, looks like bambi on skates inside the peleton. Salah is a non-factor.

Best thing from the last games is Fabinho absolutely bossing on the midfield. World class when he plays where he belongs. Best player in the first half by a mile.

Salah looks absolutely lifeless.

Why isn't Jota starting?

Kabak playing himself closer to a permanent deal lately. From zero to hero. Let's see how he plays against Real.

A shame Mané didn't score. Two huge chances he missed - he lacks confidence infront of goal.

I thought the first half was fine...not great, but not certainly bad.

IMO, this game was a microcosm of the season. Fabinho bosses the midfield and Jota completes the puzzle of the front 3 (since Bobby has dropped form so far that he is no longer right piece).

Arguably, the two most important positions for Klopp's system are the 6 (to control the midfield) and the 9 (to spearhead the press, run between the lines, and link up with Salah and Mané). During our terrible spell, our 6 (Fabinho) was either playing CB or injured and our 9 (Jota now, because Bobby clearly isn't Bobby anymore) was injured. Once Fabinho returned to the midfield (and Klopp finally allowed Philips to be a mainstay at CB), we were finally able to start controlling the game again, winning the ball back, and advancing quality passes to the front 3. And when Jota came back, he picked up right where he left off earlier in the season. Almost every time Jota steps on the field, we reach another level offensively.

Idk what is up with Bobby. He has been nearly invisible on the pitch all season. Jota is everything Klopp is looking for (and even more) in a 9 for this system.

I heard Klopp said that Jota suffered a few knocks while playing for Portugal, so not starting him was fine for me. Since we don't want to risk Jota for Tuesday, I think bringing him on at the 60th minute was the right call.

I'm definitely getting Fabinho as my next kit. He and Jota are the only one who deserve my money (and I'll give Nat an honorable mention).

We did everything but score today, so I’m not upset at the effort. However, the passing consistently seemed to be a half-second off. If the passing was ever so slightly crisper, our good chances would’ve been great chances and I’m sure we would’ve scored.

I’m a fan of Klopp but I think he is just as responsible for this season turning out the way it did as the players.

IMO, his #1 flaw is his stubbornness. He doesn’t change players unless he’s absolutely forced to due to injuries. And then when he makes changes yielding bad results, it takes him awhile, if ever, to change again.

I don’t know if Klopp lets personal relationships cloud his judgment, but I don’t understand his affinity for Firmino and Gini. I appreciate what both have done for the club but Firmino has looked cooked all season and Gini doesn’t do anything special to warrant his virtually guaranteed inclusion in the starting XI each game.

Even if Gini was coming back, I’d want a better midfielder to replace him. We absolutely need someone to replace Bobby.

I have many thoughts on Salah, which I will probably share at another time.
