You actually can't beat your wife or girlfriend, it's just a matter of whether the penalty for that is severe enough. But betting on yourself, and manipulating your performance to win bets, that's really stupid and it hurts his teammates as well as the integrity of the game.

There is nothing wrong as I see it on an athlete betting on other sports, but to bet on your own games and not even to win but to suck to make sure you win the bet, even without online sports betting, that's been a no-no since forever. Even Pete Rose bet on his teams to win.

The center position has become what the SF position had been for this team, oddly cursed.

Len - not a great player, but became unplayable
Baynes - unplayable after a solid season
Birch - could never stay healthy
Poeltl - center of trade controversy
Achiuwa - oddly productive for the Knicks
Koloko - blood clots
Porter - lifetime ban

Damn shame. I liked his game a lot actually and he worked so hard to get back to just throw it all away like an idiot.

Hope more info comes out - I do wonder the specifics of what he told the guy and if Porter colluded or just told someone to much information about his status for the game.

He's one of the most well spoken players I've ever seen. I never would have expected him to be so stupid. A shame as I liked his game.

I do think it's too harsh a penalty considering how much the NBA pushes gambling.

he's definitely going to live with regret for the rest of his life, he was on his way to secure a decent contract with the raptors, much more money than he could've made illegally gambling.
