Mann improved in almost every measurably way from year one to year two except three point shooting. He is 22. He should be taking another step forward this year. That doesn't mean he'll take enough of a jump to a be a positive influence on the box score, but if he could get to being a 0 BPM guy in year three that would be a nice improvement with a chance for him to become a positive player in year four. If his 3pt shooting goes back up to his rookie level he could be a positive impact player this year and with Cason it is possible Mann will play off the ball enough to get more corner 3s to improve his 3pt%. He took less corner 3s, as a percentage of 3pt shots, last year than 21-22 and that reduced his overall 3pt%, despite shooting a better percentage from the corner last year.

i don't think mann's summer is meaningful at all. he takes so many shots off the dribble any small sample size of shot making will make him look okay. i dont' think it's as simple as him taking or making corner threes either. mann takes a lot of dribble threes and he's really bad at making those. he doesn't get to the line and isn't a great finisher. he's also mediocre at passing the ball. if mann is going to just be a spot up three point specialist- there are better players we have on that team for that role (isaiah joe), and vasilije micic is far better at putting the ball on the floor and creating. cason wallace could even counterfeit a lot of mann's skillset while also being a decent defensive player. mann just does not have a role on this team if he can't make his dribble jump shots, his whole game is based on the fact that he has an array of moves and slipperiness to get shooting space. i'm not seeing it. playing summer league in your third year is usually a death sentence.

chet holmgren's athleticism in these games has been encouraging. his injury is a tough one to come back from but he seems to be moving around great, especially on defense, and doesn't seem to be favoring his foot at all. that's by far the most important thing imo. offensively he's struggled to create anything for himself and not playing with any playmakers is hurting him. his shot has also looked flat. he hasn't played organized ball in almost a year so i'm not worried about any of that. it'll be a major victory if he's 100% athletically and i think the return on that so far has been positive. i think he's blocked four dunks in two games.

Based upon what I've seen from Chet in college and summer league (admittedly a small sample) he seems like a blend of Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki. Before anyone loses their mind understand I mean that comparison for better and worse. Sometimes his offense looks like Dirk and other times his offense looks like KG trying to play like Dirk on offense. The same the is true on defense.

Dieng played better, thats something.

Chet is very rusty on offense, very bad handling, stupid TOs, in defense hes a good rim protector and helper, he can have a good rookie season simple being good on defense, his offense can come later.

Jaylin keeps doing a good job as our future nick collison.

Mann has another good game, will see how many till a poor one.

Chet seems to be digging deeper into his toolbox than he will in the regular season - I dont see him doing alot of these things offensively once the games count. He will be there for an open 3, a cut and putbacks. Thats all you need at this point, in time he likely will develop more of a game on that side of the ball.

I always get excited about summer league but when I actually watch it I remember what a garbage product it is. It's like watching the all star game without all stars.

Tonight vs PHL, is a real SL game.

OKC is playing great, no Cason Wallace yet but all the thunder are on fire defensively.

What I want to know does Mann start over dort. Mann has worked on his game, shot, and body. I know it's summer but he is so improved.

It's summer league as u said. As we know Mann can't defend. His offensive production was terrible, maybe it improved. I don't mind if Presti ends up keeping him on our roster (still need to cut 5 guys though) but no way he's starting.

The starting lineup, as the roster stands, should be SGA-Giddy-Jalen-Chet-Jaylin. The most commonly used lineup last year was SGA-Giddy-Dort-Jalen-Jaylin. so you move Jalen to his natural SF position, Chet takes over PF and Dort goes to the bench where he belongs stuck behind Cason, Micic, Joe, Wiggins, Mann, Kenrich, Mills and Bertans.

I don't think Jaylin should be a starter tbh. I like the kid a lot but if he can become a decent back up I will be happy enough. Line up should be Chet/JDub/Giddey/Shai/Cason IMO but it will likely be Dort instead of Cason.

This Dieng, 70% dunks, 1 jumper, 2 3s and 9 turnovers facepalm.gif

Mann keep being correct, against scrubs.

I don’t think we want Jaylin to be a starter but more of ensuring that Chet doesn’t start at C for the season.

Basically get him up to speed with NBA first . If it ends up he’s a C , you can always slot in Dort , micic , Carson , someone else into the lineup.
4 confirmed started and the 5th to be won night to night from Dort / Poku / Jaylin.

Let micic guide the 2nd line.

Reading through all post so far .

I think it’s more encouraging than disappointing.
Chet is progressing
Mann is showing signs of life but it might be too late based on what other guards offer
Jaylin is Jaylin
Jdub has improved

Only downer is that JRE is still injured.

End of the day, it’s still summer league better to show something than nothing at all.

Hey Summer league is Summer league but watching what we saw from Victor tonight I feel substantially better about Chet's odds of that ROY. I feel really good about Scoot's odds FWIW.

The talent and physical tools are there in spades but I think Vic's going to have to catch up to the speed of everything at this level. Chet's had a year to at least watch and be around it. Scoot is a freak athlete who has no problem playing in that gear to begin with.

Just the first quarter of today's game, but Chet looks really out of sync. If this was my first introduction to him, I'd be really concerned, but last years summer league and his basketball career up to this point suggest he is just out of step right now. He needs to be playing in every one of these games to regain basketball rhythm.

Cason Wallace looks reaaallly good so far. Exactly what I expected. Great defensive activity, good shooting feel (two threes so far), and making the right passes and plays. Good activity on the offensive glass too.

Fortunately he’s gotten a couple of buckets since then. Maybe the three will get his confidence going.

Wallace’s effort is noticeable.

Chet needs to not be the main focus of a team right now. In just the last couple moments he’s defended, rebounded, caught a lob, and hit an open three. Maybe he’ll be more than that some day but he doesn’t need to be more than that right now. He’ll look great if he just does those things.
