What Is Your Opinion of the Winter Olympics?

Post#1 » by kyphi » Wed Jan 22, 2014 5:49 pm

I have always viewed it as a big party in the Olympic village. Who will be the alpha male in the village? Love the Jamaican bobsled team - they are back!!!

As a proud Texan-American I have always viewed the Snowy Olympics as a bit of an oddity. As far as I'm concerned ice should only be in our tea or margaritas - never on the ground.

That said, I will be drawn in just like I am every 4 years. I will end up watching at least 87 hours of Curling before all is said and done. I'll check out the bobsledding, the ice dancing, the thing where they ski & shoot and I'll even check out hockey (tho I will never claim to understand that sport).

I enjoy the pageantry and the national pride that comes with the Olympic Games. Looking forward to a good, safe couple weeks in Sochi for everyone involved.

Now, I'd be remiss if I didn't end my post with a good, ol' fashioned USA chant.

I grew up playing ice hockey, so needless to say that is probably the sport I follow the closest. I love to ski as well, so watching the races is pretty fun for me. That said, one thing I never like during the Olympics are the judged "sports." So ice skating and half pipe and those sorts of exhibitions to me are annoying, Winter or Summer games.

I've always been a bigger fan of the winter games than the summer ones. Must be my Nordic heritage. Alpine skiing, speedskating, bobsled, luge are all winners in my book. Of course the wife likes figure skating.

Oh, and the Curling team is almost all from northern Minnesota so there's that.

That expression on their faces is what makes the photo for me. It's sort of like "how did I get myself into this situation?"

I love snow skiing as much as I love basketball, swimming, and running.

Every 4 Years I love watching the sports that barely get any coverage here in NA.
Team Sprint For Cross Country Skiing is definitely something great.
Generally dominated by Europeans, but still its great to watch.

I think Nordic Combined is the top individual medal.

The Olympics are the main event for amateur athletes. Everything they do in between is in preparation for these things IMO. I like to watch both Summer and Winter equally, but I have a slight bias for summer events.

I enjoy the Winter Games more. I don't really care about swimming, field events, and longer running events and that's most of the Summer Games. I do love watching the basketball and tennis tough. I saw badminton live in London last time around and it was pretty awesome.

Curling was exciting as heck last time around. Canada having mid-90s Bulls level team probably had something to do with that too.
