Winter games: 50km Cross Country skiing
Summer games: Marathon

The long distance stamina events interest me most.

Easily 200 meter dash. 100 meter dash ends too early for the crowd's energy to really develop. Track and field is the grand stage and the noise that comes from that stadium is ridiculous.

Summer: decathlon
Winter: alpine ski downhill

The decathlon winner is not "king of athletes" for nothing. In winter, nothing beats being the fastest skier on earth.

Summer: 100-metre dash
Winter: skeleton for an individual sport; otherwise, hockey

Being hailed "fastest man in the world" would be amazing and skeleton just looks fun. Also, I can't help remembering the Canadian who won Gold in 2010. I think he only started the sport a few years prior and won in a surprise, then chugged a pitcher of beer while singing the national anthem down the streets.

Summer - 4x 100m sprint, run or swim.

Winter - ice hockey

There's NOTHING like winning an event with your mates. Bonded forever.

That said, as someone who was compelled to do gymnastics for a few years, a close second goes to:

The two man luge has got to be it.

Hurtling down a cement hard ice chute at 90 mph on a sled the size of a garbage can lid with a 220 pound teammate lying on top of you. A great fun sport.

"world's fastest athlete" gets all the accolades and babes. no one ever talks about world's fastest 400, miler, best hammer thrower or long jumper.

the 100 gets the most money from meets, most endorsements. saying "i'm faster than you" sounds cooler than saying "i'm better than you"

I want to be from a small country, say Lithuania, and be the player that single-handidly beats the US Dreamer Team in the finals for the gold medal

Basketball!

since football isn't an Olympic sport, basketball hands down. respect to individuals, but team sports are just so much more impressive as far as representing a country goes.

plus, if I was an Olympic gold medal winner in basketball, I could probably swindle a GM like king or kahn into a multi-million dollar contract that I could retire on. :)

Long jump would be cool just to have an epic picture for years to come.

3K Steeple.

But honestly I think 800 meter world record would be awesome.

Actually 4 by 400 meter gold would be fun. Now that get's the crowd going.

It would be awesome to medal in more than one sport. Like boxing and canoeing...
