Olympic games thread - General

Post#1 » by GQStylin » Sat Aug 9, 2008 7:41 am

Is there any general thread for talking about daily happenings at the games?

China is off to a decent start with two golds on day one.

Also LOVED the opening ceromonies for the games, especially the drums at the beginning. Excellent show and they sure didn't spare any expense!

I'm watching the opening ceremonies right now. All the choreography was pretty damn impressive from the drummers to the painters and the dancers. Very nice stadium too. I was impressed.

I actually thought the torch procession was pretty cool. At the end when the dude was raised up, and then "ran" a full 360 degrees around the giant lcd screen, culminating in the lighting of the torch followed by fireworks....wow. That was a hell of a spectacle.

The Openings was well done.Excellent Firework displays, and great use of projection around the stadium and in the center on the screens. It created nice illusions, and the type boxes once was amazing. It was a bit slow, but still one of best, in my opinion Sydneys was a bit better for overall opening ceremonies.

I thought the lighting of the torch was not as good as Barcelona or Sydney.

Sydney's Elements of Fire and Water, was really good, futuristic and symbolic

Barcelona's was fast but by far the most impressive of all the lightings, with the archer.

the opening ceremony was pretty amazing, they made a perfect work in every aspect of the ceremony.

and as always it gives me goosebumps, i think it's a pretty high emotional moment just watching it over tv, imagine being there.

the lighting of the fire was pretty amazing, but my favorite is barcelona's archer.

4 man- Italy and Great Britain were neck and neck for a while, until Britain just put them away winning by almost 3 seconds, US moves on in 3rd place

I've watched most of the events live so far. It's been exciting.

Phelps gets on at 8 PM ET on NBC and NBC HD for live swimming finals. Should be exciting to see him bring home the gold.

The women's fencing was pretty fun to watch, although it seems like every girl screams their guts out everytime they get a hit.

Also didn't know that the US women were so dominant in that sport and sweeped everything. Even George Bush Sr. in attendance looked impressed.

Yeah that was funny. lmao

The most hilarious thing about it was their face after they knew they were wrong that they didn't get the point. U.S. women have done good so far. Now it's the mens turn today.

Michael Phelps is a freaking beast. He beat the world record by at least 2 seconds.

Man, the U.S. is really rolling right now. The mens U.S. volleyball starts around 1:00 AM EST against Venezuela. Hopefully, the U.S. will take them down.

The US volleyball team defeated Venezuela fairly easily. They have some tough opponents down the road like Bulgaria who I saw the US struggle against earlier this year.

*Err my bad, it's not over yet. I thought it was best 2 out of 3 sets.
