Shams: Lofton Jr Waived

Post#1 » by VCfor3 » Wed Dec 20, 2023 1:14 pm

We all saw it coming. Had to create a spot for Biz. Needed that extra big body given the other injuries. I thought Junior was going to be a solid bench piece for us, but it sounds like he didn't take it seriously and came in to training camp overweight and out of shape. Supposedly he has dropped like 20+ pounds the last few weeks due to realizing he would likely be needing to audition for another team soon. Maybe this will be the wake up call that pushes him to reach his potential.

I'm sure someone will give him a shot. It seems clear that he's an NBA level player on the offensive end, but his conditioning and defense leave alot to be desired.

That speaks of coaching player development to me...

He should have been waived before the season started once we knew Adams was out. He was a luxury stash, which is fine with a healthy roster and rotation. But instead we thought that our past success without Ja and Adams would carry over to this year but without all the veteran depth that we have had in the past. We sat on our hands in an emergency situation instead of acting even in this small way. Should have waived him and opened the roster spot and made a trade for a center and or PG before the season even started.
