Build an NBA Team: Rosters and Trades (Voting Link on p. 25)

Post#1 » by The Sixth Man » Mon Aug 18, 2008 8:54 pm

This thread will have a list of the current rosters in the Build an NBA Team game. Additionally, feel free to talk trades in this thread. You can post players you're willing to trade, players you'd like to trade for, picks you'd like to trade for, etc. When trading, the total amount of players and picks Team A is trading away must equal the total amount of players and picks Team B is trading away. Also, both parties must agree to the trade on this message board.

Your first 3 picks definitely fit the run 'n gun offense well, that's for sure. I think my team is going to be great. I've already got a few players in mind for my next few picks. If I'm able to get some of them, my team should be incredibly well-balanced with almost no weaknesses.

That's the thing about 10 team leagues, all of the teams will look demonstrably better.

I'm interested in J's 4th pick, because B-Diddy isn't what I would call a three point shooter and the other two don't have the range really either.
As for my team, I have a similar setup to the Sixth man in that I only need one backup guard, I'm debating over where to draft last now and interested to see now that the lines become blurred between players who everyone chooses.

My team spells S-T-E-A-L Duncan is a top 3 pick in a draft when you're building to win for next season. Tmac in the THIRD ROUND? Are you joking?

True. But some will definitely still be better than others.

Is Joe Johnson effective at PG? I must say, I had no clue he averaged so many assists per game. 6.5 two years ago??? That's very impressive.

He's a very competent ball handler and certainly able to play PG, he handled the duties when Nash was on the bench in Phoenix as well. He's explosive, he can shoot the lights out, he can defend, and he can manage the floor.

Your team definitely has the potential to be one of the best ones. The thing is, all three of your guys are going to want a lot of touches. It will be interesting to see how you fill out the rest of your roster. I was kind of surprised to see McGrady fall to the third round. Still, there are a few available players right now who I thought would be taken in the second round.

I actually think Duncan and Mac both can temper their touches a little, but you've really got to find the perfect SG or SF and PGs to go into that offense, otherwise there will be a lot of chemistry issues.

Duncan may not demand the ball, but he's always averaged at least 14.1 shots, 5.9 free throws, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 turnovers per game. That's about 22 touches right there. Plus, there's also times where he has the ball but doesn't shoot or get an assist or turnover. Basically, when he's playing, he's going to touch the ball on most of his team's possessions. That's not a bad thing, because he's one of the best players in the league. But he's going to need his touches.

Not to advocate for a rival, but depending on those last two positions I could see something where TMac brings it up, dumps it to Duncan, Tim either shoots or passes back out for an open shot or to Mac to reset, Mac and Dirk can run pick n pops, etc. I think Dirk would be the real problem. He has a tendency to put his head down and force it if he's not getting involved and he could cost them some possessions doing so. The other issue is that Duncan is used to having someone to man up the best player for the other team down low, so that he can roam and protect the basket. Dirk is certainly NOT that player.
