Here's a enthusiastic hatchet job on Pitino by Wojikowski, who seems to take a special glee in urinating on his quarry and then degrading the reputation of their ancestors. I guess a simple 'Nets not interested in Pitino' twitter feed just wasn't evocative enough.

Tubby Smith, your next Biché!

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=a ... &type=lgns

Well, there was more, but he sure pumped it up like the Nets are going to hire a coach who's some kind of transcendent biblical that'll shake the pillars of the galaxy into ecstatic rapture:

WojYahooNBA Sources: Nets new billionaire owner doesn't want Pitino's damaged brand. He's thinking bigger. Much bigger.

The NBA’s board of governors will approve Prokhorov’s ownership bid in March, and sources say that only then will he begin to make his imprint on this floundering franchise. Until then, they only know this about Mikhail Prokhorov in the halls of the NBA’s Olympic Tower and the Nets’ practice facility: The man is planning to go big-game hunting [for a coach], and Rick Pitino never had a shot with him.

Well, let's see, there's....

Man, if the Celtics can get Jamison+Butler and if the Lakers can get a PG, this could be a darn good Finals. Seriouly - why even play the rest of the games. Just skip to Boston vs LA and get it over with.

Why exactly would CLE want Stoudamire? Wouldn't they have the same problems that PHX had when they tried to pair Shaq and Amare? That would take them farther away from a title IMO.

Not just that but can someone, anyone, tell me why Phoenix would deal with Cleveland??? The Cavs don't have a single asset to offer. Z's expiring? JJ Hickson? HA! This is all spewing out of the Cleveland camp to get us or the Pacers to bite.

POSSIBLY, definitely a long shot, but if the Cav's were actually willing to take on Jason Richardson's colossal last year, they have that to offer.

Might have to be Shaq with a buyout in there though, instead of Easy-Z.

I forget where it was but I already saw a rumor that the Suns rejected moving Richardson with Amare. Don't ask me why they wouldn't though, I guess they don't want to piss off Nash and then have to completely blow it up and deal him too while turning into a complete bottom feeder.

Sounds like Ernie syndrome to me.
It seems in most GM's minds, 30-40 win team with no shot at winning it all but only pissing off the hardcore fans while still being seen as "entertaining" >>> team on a total rebuild with cap space and top 5 draft picks(a shot to land a superstar) but sucking and not drawing well.

While trading Butler and Haywood sucks, I have no idea how the Mavericks are expected to win anything by inserting two guys into their lineups mid-season. I've read on other forums that Butler might start at the 2. Butler isn't a shooting guard. That has disaster written all over it.

Adding Rasheed Wallace (with his temperament and other shortcomings) to a good Pistons team might have had disaster written all over it, but it propelled them to a championship. It doesn't always work, but Dallas has been starting shooting guard by committee (Beaubois, Barea, Howard), and Butler as a starter can work for some match ups; they don't have to start him every game. Having Butler on the committee isn't going to hurt them. He can also backup or start at SF, they have a lot of flexability, and they now have Haywood in the middle, on top of Dampier. Anything's possible, but I think Dallas might actually be able to challenge now. Cuban bought true contention for $10 million.

I would also see the possibility of the Butler in the Damp Dump deal.

Dallas Out:
C. Butler (2011 expiring)
Dampier (magic expiring)
Rowdy Boobs
2011 & 2013 1st Round Draft picks

Dallas In:
Jesus

Didn't realize that. They've got Terry and Marion manning the guard and forward positions, so do you really want to pay Butler $10 mil to come off the bench?

Terry usually comes off the bench already, at a comparable salary. Between Butler, Terry, and Marion, one of them is coming off the bench, and maybe more depending on the match ups. Like I said, they're trying to buy a shot at the title, and they paid a lot of cash to do it. But I don't pay to watch the Wizards put cash on the court. They should have played hardball and gotten a young player or a pick, or said "Good luck with your championship aspirations."

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... e_prefers/

"ESPN reported on Saturday morning that Phoenix is absolutely looking for talent in return for Stoudemire and is not considering this a salary dump."

"The Suns will almost certainly demand J.J. Hickson and a first round pick in return for Stoudemire."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx_ZU-qRD1Q

That counts as talent? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

What have you done JJ Hickson? NOTHING! YOU'VE DONE NOTHING!!!

Envisioning (guessing?) a depth chart for Dallas now:

Haywood/Dampier
Nowitzki/Marion
Marion/Butler
Terry/Butler/Barea
Kidd/Beaubois/Barea

That line up matches pretty well with Lakers/Nuggets/Spurs/Magic/Cavs/Celtics

^ I'd say more like:

Haywood/Dampier
Nowitzki/Oberto
Marion/Butler
Butler/Terry
Kidd/Barea/Beaubois

Forgot about Oberto, and it solves all the troubling "too short at SG" issues above, while allowing Terry to keep coming off the bench. If Oberto sees any time at center, Haywood and Dampier better have fouled out.

I have a feeling in Dallas we'll see the Oberto we thought we were getting when we signed him. Too bad we didn't end up being good enough to really use him.

We move Terry back to the bench. He is perfect coming off the bench and has no problem with it. He got forced into a too big role with the downfall of Howard the last 2 years (you can see it on his dropping %).

Kidd/Barea/Roody
Butler 16 / Terry 32
Marion 26 / Butler 22
Dirk 36 / Marion 12
Haywood 28 / Damp 20

Bingo

Another thing is playing Butler/Marion together at 2/3 is that Marion can take the 2s at defense, he was playing always against Kobe/Roy etc. So that Butler cant guard well the good SGs isnt that big deal.

And what if they sign him to a long extension? Could be epic.

But that assumes that LeBron stays. If Shaq and Amare can't coexist, Cleveland doesn't win a title. And if Cleveland doesn't win a title, LeBron's chances of staying go down IMO.
