trade exception question
Okay so Seattle signed and traded Rashard Lewis to the Magic which generated a huge trade exception. Then did they use that trade exception to acquire Kurt Thomas or were they far enough under the cap? And if they did use their TE, I'd imagine KT's contract didn't take up the whole thing. So do they have some of that TE left to use or is more like a one and done sort of thing?

Phobo - as Gump pointed out, Rashard's TPE wasn't as big as you would have thought since he became BYC when the Sonics re-signed him (before trading him). So even though the contract was for 13+ mil, the TPE was only 9+ mil since thats about what his BYC value was (whatever his last year salary was actually)

Yes, there is some remaining unused TPE. TPEs can be split into smaller pieces (but not combined into bigger ones).
The Sonics have a year after the original trade to use it...if they don't, it disappears. (That said, it does count against the cap; a team with a TPE can also renounce it if they prefer capspace.)
