Awesome victory, Portland. Hopefully I can visit your wonderful city again soon.
Columbus joins us (Revs) as the only other MLS team to lose a home finals.

Major props to the Timbers and their fans.
Zero props to the Columbus fans for chucking beer cans at Wallace and grabbing a Timber on a corner kick. OK, one prop to the hot Columbus fan who flipped off the camera while the commish was praising Columbus fans.

Congratulations. If my hometown Whitecaps couldn't win it I'm glad our rival could.

Re: Portland Timbers Discussion Thread (2015 MLS Cup Champions)
A little late to the party, but I was watchin the game live. I even left work early, especially when I found out I had the house to myself!!! Frankly, none of those 3 goals should have happened. This game easily could have went to PK's if not for the oddity happening in Columbus on Sunday. I still have the game on DVR if anyone wants to come watch it again! hahahaha

Can the Portland Timbers repeat as Champions?
Portland is greater than the sum of it's parts, and figured that out in 2015 to win MLS Cup. They figured out their formation: a 4-3-3 with Diego Chara playing the deep defensive role. They figured out their personnel, moving Nagbe to central midfield paired with Diego Valeri, and bringing in Nat Borchers to command the backline. They did it with their tactics and play, as they could use Fanendo Adi to strong arm his way for goals, or ping it backwards to rushing wing players, or have Lucas Melano or Maxi Urriti skip and dance the ball into the net.

2016 MLS Season Preview: Portland Timbers
The 2015 season will be one Portland fans will treasure forever more. The Timbers managed to exceed all expectations by lifting the MLS Cup title in what was just their fifth season in Major League Soccer. Caleb Porter deserves great credit for the job he has done in Portland, and his attacking team fully deserved their success last term. The big question will now be: Can they do it again? Well, it’s certainly going to be tricky, but the Timbers still have a talented squad, a great coach and some of, if not the most passionate fans in MLS. Roll on 2016…

Portland Timbers Season Preview 2016
It never hurts to be defending MLS Cup Champions. In the 20 years since the MLS Cup has been around, defending champs have repeated 3 times and at least made the playoffs 17 times. Not bad odds of having a successful season to back up their Cup victory. You also can’t underestimate the atmosphere in Portland as a factor either. They sell out every single home game at their dedicated stadium, have a ‘mascot’ that chainsaws lumber named Timber Joey, and their record shows it. They only lost 3 at home in 2015, but 8 on the road. In 2014 it was 3 losses at home and 6 on the road. Whatever the Timbers Army is doing, they should keep doing it.

Portland Timbers acquire English Premier League winger Jack Barmby
http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/03/04/report-portland-timbers-acquire-english-premier-league-winger-jack-barmby
The mystery winger set to replace Rodney Wallace for the Portland Timbers may finally be revealed.
The Timbers have acquired English Premier League winger Jack Barmby on a season-long loan, according to a report from The Oregonian on Friday. There has been no official announcement from the Timbers.
Barmby, 21, is currently on the books at Leicester City, though he has only featured for their Under-21 side. Last year, he went on short-term loans to Rotherham United in the Football League Championship and Notts County in League Two.
He has also featured for England’s youth national team, last year playing with the U-20s.
Barmby is expected to replace Wallace, the versatile midfielder/forward who played a pivotal role for the Timbers since joining them in 2011 and scored the game winner in last year’s MLS Cup.
Wallace signed with Portuguese club FC Aroca in January and Timbers head coach Caleb Porter has been on the hunt for replacements since then. The Timbers were reportedly pursuing a winger from Liga MX, but the deal fell through.
The Timbers season opens Sunday against Columbus Crew SC in a rematch of last year's MLS Cup (4:30 PM ET; ESPN).

That was a great game. I was hoping there'd be a follow-up story to the Timbers Army paying to bring the chick who flipped off the camera at the MLS Cup last December. Did she show up? Was there anything to it? Did she switch sides and root for the Timbers?

Portland Timbers vs. Minnesota United FC
2017 MLS Regular Season - Week 1
Providence Park - Portland, Oregon
Friday, March 3 - 9:30 pm ET
WATCH: FS1, FOX Deportes
MLS SOCCER Kicks off tonight in Portland, as the Timbers take on Minnesota United FC!!!
A club with championship ambitions and an established core that was further strengthened by astute offseason acquisitions welcomes an expansion side still taking shape, fueled by a start-up’s adrenaline and a desire to prove the skeptics wrong in their first-ever match. That’s Portland Timbers vs. Minnesota United FC – the match that officially kicks off the 2017 MLS season on Friday night, March 3.
Portland Timbers
The Timbers come in with a chip on their shoulder after missing the MLS Cup Playoffs and failing to defend their 2015 title. But with the additions of ball-hounding defensive midfielder David Guzman and playmaking winger Sebastian Blanco, the Timbers are arguably more stacked and explosive than they’ve ever been in their MLS existence. And those acquisitions carry a ripple effect: They allow the dynamic Diego Chara to push higher up the field and slick possession man Darlington Nagbe to operate on the left wing, where the Timbers vow he will be most productive.
Suspended: None
Injured: DF Gbenga Arokoyo (ruptured Achilles tendon)
Int’l Duty: FW Jeremy Ebobisse (US U-20s)
Projected Timbers Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Jake Gleeson – Vytas Andriuskevicius, Liam Ridgewell, Lawrence Olum, Alvas Powell – David Guzman, Diego Chara – Darlington Nagbe, Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco – Fanendo Adi
Notes: Costa Rican international defender Roy Miller will reportedly join the team on March 6 after wrapping up CONCACAF Champions League participation with Deportivo Saprissa, who were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Miller can play at left back and center back if necessary … The Timbers are pursuing a starting caliber center back after Gbenga Arokoyo suffered a season-ending injury on Jan. 30. MLS veteran Lawrence Olum, who was brought in as cover at defensive midfield, has proven more than capable as a fill-in thus far.
Minnesota United FC
Minnesota’s preseason record (0-2-5) feeds into the narrative of an expansion team that’s going to need more time to find its on-field identity. The squad, steadily assembled throughout the offseason, features interesting pieces: experienced defenders (Calvo, Demidov), skillful possession-based midfielders (Schuller, Warner, Saeid) and explosive wingers and attackers (Gatt, Molino, Ibarra, Venegas, Danladi). Now whether they can function like a fine-tuned machine is up to new head coach Adrian Heath, who has promised high energy and fight in every match, a style reminiscent of his teams in Orlando.
Suspended: None
Injured: FW Abu Danladi (back in training on Tuesday after missing a week with an injury
Int’l Duty: None
Projected MNUFC Starting XI: John Alvbage – Justin Davis, Francisco Calvo, Vadim Demidov, Jermaine Taylor – Rasmus Schuller, Collen Warner – Bashkim Kadrii, Johan Venegas, Kevin Molino – Christian Ramirez
Notes: Swiss defender Jerome Thiesson is reportedly yet to join the team due to visa paperwork … Defender Vadim Demidov was named captain and left back Justin Davis as vice captain.
