Yeah, it's early but we might as well get this started up.

Rough roster as of now:

Melo - Micic - Mann
Cody - NSJ - Bryce (not guaranteed) - Curry (not guaranteed) - Bailey (two-way)
Miller - Leaky (two-way) - Thor (option declined)
Miles (free agent) - Grant - Bertans (not guaranteed)
Mark - Richards - Mensah (two-way) - Nnaji (currently in Spain)

Things to do:

Decide if we're keeping Miles.
Get a new coach.
Get a new GM.
Replace some of our bench guys with actual NBA players.
Probably find another starting guard/wing to take Cody's spot. (could also start Grant)

Assets to use:

Our own 1st (top 5)
Miami 1st (potentially this year or later)
Future Dallas 1st (top 2 protected)
Lots of cap space.

We shouldn't be done cleaning up the roster. We need to pull the plug on some of our 2nd round projects and sign some real NBA players. I hope to see something like this going into next season:

LaMelo/Micic/FA
Martin/Mann/Smith
Miller/Lotto/FA
Bridges/Williams
Williams/Richards/FA

We use our lotto pick on a wing and we sign a true point guard, a wing, and a big. And if we really want to get ambitious we combine Martin, Bertans, etc. with draft assets to upgrade at the 2.

Big wings/centers are needed. You saw the premium placed on big wings at the trade deadline. Risacher would be nice if we can get into the top 2 since he isn't gonna make it past 2 with the way he is playing. Cody Williams being the secondary prize. Sarr third in my books, just because Mark Williams is up in the air. I don't trust Richards to be anything more than a warm body.

Hire a solid coach like Bud, who would come here with Miller's breakout. Cap space on bench pieces

Cody Williams or Risacher in the draft.

Hire Bud who may be the best available HC on the market.

Go from there.

I still want Melton as starting 2 guard, throw him big money.

Curious on people's thoughts about the roster construct going into next year, with us probably landing in the top-5 of the draft.....

- Miller stays at the 3, Miles at the 4 and draft a SG:

Ball
Cody Williams/Ja'Kobe Walter
Miller
Miles
Williams

- Miller slides over to the SG spot and draft a SF or PF:

Ball
Miller
Miles
Sarr/Risacher
Williams

Odds are Sarr/Risacher or more likely to go #1 overall, so they might be out of the equation completely. I hope Miles is re-signed, and he's more than capable of playing the 4 than the 3 with a wiry/lengthy SF and a true 7-footer like Williams.

I opt for option one, but I'm guessing the new GM/HC will take BPA based on where we draft that isn't a PG and sort out the dominoes later.

I think we are well set up for success, and if we end up in the top-5 of the draft, should have our core in place of Ball-Miller-Miles-Williams. Not a lot of FAs I envision being better than Miles and want to come to Charlotte, so re-signing Miles becomes FA priority #1 for me. If we were going to cut ties with him based on his off-the-court antics, we already would have. Adding that final starting piece in the draft will give us a team akin to the Thunder/Kings/Rockets brimming with young talent.

It would appear that we found our back-up PG with Mann & have a heckuva role player in Grant Williams to come off the bench with Seth.

The way things are going with Mark, and assuming we don't get Sarr, might have to throw an offer sheet to an FA big if worst comes to worst. The gem of course is Nic Claxton but since that's going to cost us maybe we can look at guys like Tillman, Hartenstein, or Jalen Smith once he turns down his player option.

Offseason priority

1. New front office
2. New coach
3. Resign or s&t miles
4. Find a starting level Center. We cannot rely on Mark Williams to be healthy and we need to upgrade it over Nick
5. Add vet leaders
6. Solidify backup point guard. Maybe it's Mann, Curry or Micic or draft pick, if not figure it out
7. Add shooting. Toughness defense
8. Cut bait on dead weight

Draft Cody Williams
Hire coach Bud
Upgrade backup center
Try and sign some pieces that fit the new culture
Resign Miles
I'm iffy on the gm but I'm not against getting rid of mitch
Overhaul the medical staff for sure

Ball
Miller
Williams (cody)
Miles
Mark

That's what I want us to eventually put on the floor and see what happens. Health is MAJOR KEY (DJ Khalid)

The Plan:

Re-sign Miles.
Bring over Nnaji for the G-league team.

Draft Reed Sheppard (assuming we pick around 5th). Smart, great shooter, good defender.
Sign Kelly Olynyk as backup PF/C. We need somebody who can play C and PF, our other PF's are small and our C's can't shoot.

Keep Seth Curry because it's cool to have a Curry on the team.
Try to consolidate some of our combo guards into a better guard SG/SF for Cody injury insurance.
Keep or cut Bertans based on if we need money or not.

Other Potential Signings:

Obi Toppin, athletic, versatile. Fun dunks.
Dario Saric, smart versatile.
Hartenstein. A backup plan for Olynyk. A backup C who can also start and is better than Nick. The others are either too expensive or won't come off bench.
Mason Plumlee. Will the GOAT make his return to his throne?

Melo - Micic - Curry - NSJ & Bailey (G-league)
Reed - Mann
Miller - Cody
Miles - Grant
Mark - Kelly - Richards - Nnaji (G-league)

The one thing we're missing in this scenario is a legit scoring 6th man. This can be traded for (the combo guard consolidation).

Our bench is also quite small. So it may be

Melo - Micic - Curry
Reed - Cody - Mann
Miller- Grant
Miles - Kelly
Mark - Richards

Actually, I like that one better.

I know this is a long shot, but Paul George and the Clippers have yet to come to an agreement on a contract extension.

I wouldn't mind bringing him to Charlotte if they decide to move on. He's another guy who plays the right way and can bring leadership to the team.

Saying that I'm not getting my hopes up because I think he will ultimately come to an agreement with the Clippers.

Charlotte is at roughly 92 million in guaranteed contracts for next year among 9 guys.
Seth Curry, McGowens, Thor are all unguaranteed.
Bertans is partial guarantee, so if you waive him thats roughly 97 million in cap.
Assume the first round pick has a 8 million cap hold (5th pick).
That puts at 105, Miles has a 15 million cap hold, so if we don't renounce him that leaves us at 120 with cap of 141.
So we have roughly max cap of 35 million if we renounce Miles, Bertans, Curry, McGowens and Thor.

So I would say no Paul George money exists. (Kawhi signed extension for 3/150)

I would say it goes 1 of 3 ways.

Option 1: We pick up Bertans full contract, along with Curry, McGowens, pay Miles. Operate over the cap and only free agent we bring in is on MLE.

Option 2: We operate under the cap use that 20 million to sign a free agent or 2 along with Miles.

Option 3: We bring in a few smaller contracts for 2nd round picks in salary dumps for teams opening space and we only bring back Miles.

I feel like Bryce and Thor are almost definitely not coming back. Not sure about Bertans. His contract isn't great and he's not that good, but he does offer some front court shooting we desperately need so it'll probably depend on Miles and if they want to chase any FAs. Seth I feel like is guaranteed to return just based on his name (and I'm okay with that for culture reasons)

I have a feeling we are gonna empty all the picks to get a star to go with Ball, Miller and Bridges, becuase that is what new owners tend to do. They want to make a splash. Like 5 fists and 2 swaps.

Markkanen, Zion or Ingram, Towns would be my guesses

Where do the outgoing salaries come from

Markkanen is awesome and on an insanely good contract (seriously works straight up for Bertans). I wouldn't mind trading a bunch of picks for him if they were insisting on going that route. Not interested at all in Zion, Ingram, or Towns for this team.

We don't have contracts for any big trades without Rozier, Gordon or PJ.

Our only non-rookie deal over 10m is Bertan and Grant, who make a combined 29m. And neither of which have much if any value.

I would actually love that idea simply because this draft doesn't look like it has a star prospect.

It has to be for the right player though.

Zion has surprisingly stayed healthy so far. If he can finish the season healthy and the Pelicans flop in the playoffs I can see them selling Zion this off-season.
