Create a Bob Costas-style NBA on NBC intro

Post#1 » by karmew32 » Fri May 10, 2024 3:59 am

This came to mind after reading the topic that said the NBA is likely to leave TNT for NBC.

I'll start with Game 1 of the 2021 NBA Finals.

In 1968, the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns both entered the NBA. Each finishing at the bottom of their respective conferences, they had a coin flip to determine who would win the #1 overall pick. The Bucks won, selecting Lew Alcindor #1, later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He led them to the 1971 NBA championship and three years later, had them within one win of another. Now, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks, in their third year of title contention, have finally broken through and returned to the NBA Finals. Exactly a week ago, Antetokounmpo suffered a knee injury that looked at the time to be not only season-ending, but career-altering. He’s suiting up tonight.

As for the Suns, despite being one of the winningest franchises in league history, they’re still searching for their first championship. Their defeats have often been dramatic (clip of Paxson shot) and sometimes, controversial (clip of Horry hip check). In a trade during the offseason, the Suns acquired Chris Paul, an 11-time All-Star and arguably the greatest floor general of his generation. In his 16th season, this is his first NBA Final. Devin Booker, in his playoff debut, has further cemented his All-Star credentials, averaging 27 points in 16 playoff games. For the Suns, not only is this their first playoff appearance in just over a decade, but their first trip to the Finals since 1993.

The Bucks, aiming for their first championship in a half-century. The Suns, aiming for their first ever. Who will draw first blood? Game 1, next.

Not particularly creative, just a re-wording of an intro from the 1996 Finals.

This is for Game 7 of the 2023 ECF

It's still unthinkable. Isn't it?

Kevin Harlan: The Celtics are gonna win, there's a Game 7 back in Boston!

Destiny had a date with the Miami Heat. But now, it flirts with the Boston Celtics.

Now, whether the Heat can finish the Cinderella run doesn't seem like a burning question.

The only thing burning is Miami's 3-0 lead, which has been completely erased.

*Inside TD Garden*

This is now where the Eastern Champion will be crowned.

The Celtics are back home with chance to make history.

Game 7, next.

Good one. Particularly love the use of Heat puns. The only thing I would add is stating that no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

Here's one for Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals:

Game 5 of the NBA Finals was one to remember. With their backs against the wall, the Warriors decided to bring back Kevin Durant. He put up 11 points in 12 minutes before tearing his Achilles. Things looked dire for the Warriors as they trailed by 6 with 3 minutes left, but an ill-fated timeout by Nick Nurse gave the Warriors the break they needed, and they quickly seized momentum. They ensured Durant’s sacrifice was not in vain and won by 1 point, impeding the Toronto Raptors from a hometown celebration of their first championship.

Now, we return to Oracle Arena for Game 6. It’s the last NBA game in the arena’s 53-year history, a cauldron of a gym *run TMC clip* that the hometown Warriors have brewed many memorable moments in, *clip of We Believe series vs Mavs* both as scrappy underdogs and as title contenders *clip of some Curry 3*. Will the Splash Brothers send out their raucous venue with a vintage performance and force a Game 7? Or will Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors shut down Oracle on the back of their tenacious defense? Game 6, next.
