That is sobering to read. There are very few players in the league worth giving up that much of your future for, in my opinion, and Beal isn't even close to that list. And yes, I know some of that is due to the KD trade as well.

Let the fun begin

Wow. Was not expecting Paul to Golden State. This will be very interesting to see how it plays out. I'm forever burnt by what Payton looked like in the Triangle, but Paul is a much more cerebral player than Payton.

GS trading away Poole seems wise, but is disturbing. Poole was the guy they groomed to be as close of an analogue to Curry as they could get in the younger generation, and his final 362 days with the club:

Poole wins a championship.
Gets punched by a teammate.
Gets paid.
Has a disappointing new year.
Gets traded away.

If Poole goes on to thrive elsewhere, this will likely be seen as a horrifically short-sighted move.

Of course if Paul is great and the Warriors win another chip GS will take that, but I can't imagine the Warriors trade Poole at all if he has a good '22-23, so this is something done in reaction to the season that followed the Green fight. And of course, it sure looks like Green will still be there, meaning that the end story here might be boiled down to a message of, "If Draymond hits you, we'll trade you."

Like I said, disturbing.

Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing they are doing necessarily, because I think Green is still a great player and I'm not sure if Poole will ever be great, but the context makes it feel squicky.

That's the least expected trade I could think of in last 10 years...

I've always appreciated Paul the player but damn, the trade makes it a lot tougher for me to root for the team. Green and Paul can be very irritating, Klay has had his fair share of annoyingly thin-skinned moments post injury, and Poole just seems like a great dude who is genuinely liked by teammates and players around the NBA save for the few/one exception(s) that unfortunately mattered a great deal.

If Paul buys into a sixth-man role, the Warriors have a solid chance to be improved over what they would have had with Poole on the team (although it's tough to say whether he would have been able to take the next step or not). But I won't lie, this clearly lessens my enthusiasm for the next season and beyond. It just feels wrong to trade Poole for various reasons (homegrown, well-integrated, the main hope for the two timeline approach, and shipped out instead of the guy who attacked him).

Dunleavy's career as the GM starts with a splash. He had the courage to make a big move – something Myers (mostly rightly, in some cases perhaps wrongly) has largely eschewed for a long time. That's something. But if Poole takes a step forward next season and Paul doesn't work out for the Warriors, he'll have to take responsibility for that (unless it turns out that this was actually decided a level above him).

Nobody on that team liked Poole lol Draymond was the only guy crazy enough to do something about it

I like Poole, hope he does well in a new environment, but it will be nice to replace him with a guy who just cares about winning at this point

Who knows what CP will look like in our system, but it should be fun

Can you elaborate on the scuttlebutt pertaining to Poole's relationships with teammates?

Obviously I know about the Draymond incident and have heard some other talk along the way, but I'm curious how you'd elaborate upon it as someone specifically follows the Warriors.

GSW has been masquerading as a “model franchise” when they:

1) doled out no punishment to the guy who punched a teammate
2) traded away the guy who got punched as the path of least resistance

Can’t say I’m surprised. Their brass have looked spineless again and again.

To be fair, it's a lot of reading between the lines. The team's reaction (or lack thereof) to the punch, Steph throwing his mouthguard/getting ejected after a terrible late game decision by Poole, Kerr's comments on Draymond's podcast

Iguodala always loved him, but I think Poole's priorities (understandably) changed after winning his first ring

The Warriors did well to dump Poole, but their asset management since the tank-a-thon has been brutally bad.

They won a ring, but I think their days of contending are over unless Klay/Draymond/CP3 all have a swansong season.

With CP3 and Draymond on the same team they just need to get Grayson Allen and that team will have the three biggest nut punchers/dirty players in the league.

Didn't realize how bad Poole was last year. A -4 guy accoriding to 538 RAPTOR. -2 both ways.

CP3 was a +2, and when his shot comes back(because it will), he's really a +3 or +4.

But with that said, replacing a -4 with a +2 is a +6 net difference. Massive.

It's like replacing an average player with an all-NBA guy.

It's like replacing Tyus Jones with Jimmy Butler, Shai, or Kyrie Irving.

GS probably beats LA with this replacement. I didn't realize Poole basically tanked their season.

I think this is the first time CP3 has actually replaced a bad player since the WB trade. I expect some pleasant surprises for GS fans. Just like with Houston, OKC, and PHX fans.
Swinging for the fences.

I kinda think CP3 and Dray might love one another on the same team.

Yeah they should get along, they’re part of the same friend group or something right?
