I like Kornet and Tillman both. They bring different things to the table. Up to Mazz to use them appropriately depending on situation and matchup.

Simply put, Tillman is the present and the future.

Maybe in the regular season Kornet and Tillman will be used appropriately, but in the playoffs, X will get more playing time.

X is just that good.

Why X gets play in the playoffs?

Joe is loving the double big lineup now.

That means Brissett is not going to be used and Hauser's minutes will go down in favor of the double big lineup.

Instead of using a wing like Hauser or Brissett, Joe uses a double big lineup now.

Like Brad said after the deadline, they needed that depth big who could play both the 4 and the 5 that they didn’t really have.

Can see why his finishing stats tank a bunch of times though lol.

He should be shooting a couple thousand corner threes per day this offseason. With his D and awareness, he'd be getting paid if he became a reliable corner three shooter.

I learned a lot more about X.
He's really good on the Defensive end. But in general, this Guy can play.

Brad is doing an elite job. Mavs gave up more for Gafford than we did for Tillman. Last night Tillman was awesome and Gafford barely played. X is a really good role-player and a great fit and we got him for peanuts off the scrap heap.

He looks big in the same way Brissett does not. Brissett looks like a 2/3 out there and we talked about him as a 4. X looks like a 4/5. He just looked smart out there with his passing and activity. Hope he can be long term depth. Could be a very useful role player.

X is kind of like Al and he's kind of like Theis.

Brad has a type.

He doesn't mind if bigs are a little undersized. He likes if they're tough, gritty, high IQ, good playmakers, versatile on D, makes the right basketball play, glue guys who can fit a role, not ball dominant, with at least *some* shooting ability, while being at least 25 so further along in their development so they know how to play, don't make mistakes, don't foul too much, know how to set screens, etc.

I didn't know they traded for Draymond Jr.

Interesting how Luke Kornet came into the NBA shooting 3's, is shooting almost 90% FT and never shoots anything further than a layup. Kornet is a better shooter. I have no issue with Tillman working on 3's even those he has fallen off in that area. But why isn't Kornet doing this?

Just go back to page 1 of this thread and you’ll find a poster or two calling Tillman “trash.”

I’d guess those posters wanted a “bench scorer” instead.

Really shows a lot about Tillman's thought process.

Yeah, a lot of the times when you're watching a game live it's impossible to see all that a guy is doing. Watching the way that guy broke it down, Tillman was making smart play after smart play, oftentimes in the same possession. Brad continues to knock it out of the park.

Tillman is really sort of a Grant Williams replacement- a not tall, quick footed, immovable widebody. Previous to the X acquisition, GWill's former minutes have gone to Hauser and Kornet, who are much different.

Grant Williams, despite his shortcomings, did a few things well: 1) he shot the three, and 2) everybody bounced off him when they tried to bang him to get position. Even Giannis and Embiid couldn't budge him.
(Many Bucks fans have claimed the Celtics would sorely miss Batman on defense vs Mr. Very Long Greek guy. Feel free to snicker at this assessment.)

Enter Xavier Tillman, another mostly below the rim, somewhat short big man. Unlike Williams, Tillman is not an effective three point shooter, which is Grant's meaningful advantage. What Tillman is though, is another nimble wall.

Tillman brings a four inch plus wingspan upgrade, giving him more versatility. He passes better than Grant. He rebounds much better.

The Celtics have the rest of the season to see how much Xavier will play come playoff time. It's early days.
