The Dodgers need something approximating a starting shortstop, and Angel Berroa doesn't fit the bill. Sitting in 2nd place in the unthinkably bad NL West, the ideal player would be a veteran who could be acquired on the cheap...good enough to be an improvement, but not likely to cost the team anything particularly valuable.
Enter David Eckstein. He's an improvement of 100-150 points of OPS over Berroa, less error-prone, and his attempts to make throws to first are worth the price of admission. He could single-handedly grit the Dodgers to the pennant.
The asking price: fairly low...a couple of struggling minor league pitchers would be sufficient. My personal asking price would be Marlon Arias (23 year old 6'3" LH stick-figure/walk machine/launching pad in Jacksonville), and Zach Hammes (24 year old 6'6" RHRP who can't find the strike zone). Neither are great prospects by any stretch, but projects who might benefit from a change in scenery.
What say ye, Dodgers fans?
