Season game thread

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Mon May 18, 2009 3:38 am

Is this alright? We had some good game threads for the first couple of weeks, but it seems like people have just stopped making them.

With the celtics and bruins faltering, it is nice to have the red sox to fall back on. Most of my attention will be turned their way.

Big series this week against the Jays. They have a nice team, and are off to a hot start so far.

Thank god we're missing Doc, he is on a different level, and doesn't seem to be slowing anytime soon.

I'm actually planning on going to the Pawsox game Tuesday. It's at noon so it should be empty, Youk is playing, should be fun.

Should be a great series. Dice will be back Friday against the Mets too.

So I went to that Pawsox game yesterday, here's a couple things I took away from it:
Clay looked completely average, very disappointing for what I was expecting. The 1st 3 batters he must have thrown over to first 15 times, and that's not and exaggeration. He topped out consistently in the 95-96 range and wasn't exactly giving me or anyone else chills out there.
Youk looked to be just trying to get his bearings back, seemed to be in fine shape while rounding the bases on a flyout.
This reliever they have down there, Marcus McBeth, was on point yesterday. He pitched prob 2inn and got everyone he faced out off a flyball.

All in all though it was a great time. $10tix(the good seats, lol) and $2 parking can't be beat.

Never been, but yeah I heard it is a blast for such cheap money.

BIG PAPI!! Finally. Good to see the offense do well. How about Vartiek, 2 home runs. And Penny had a nice performance up until the 7th.

Ellsbury ties the MLB record for put outs in a game with 12.

Papi is back!! Hopefully this morphs into a nice little run here, we'll see.

Nice game; especially with it being against the Blue Jays. I like them for some reason more than I did the Rays last year. Even though that kid dropped a deuce on the mound tonight that young group of starters is legit, when paired with Halladay that staff will do work, so to say.

Hopefully Lester can git datt dubya tomorrahh and we come away with the sweep, even with the L I'll go away happy from this series.

****ing Pap. Trade that bum.

These are some tough games we should be winning, hopefully they don't come back and bite us in the ass.

Just came across this gem:
BV: Okay. That's good enough. My second question is a baseball question. One of my new teammates, Neftali Feliz, throws a hundred miles per hour. You get it up to a hundred miles per hour. And the common thread between you two is that you both do it so effortlessly. Now, I tend to look like a steroid addict having a seizure just trying to get 90. How do you make it look so easy?

 What a game. All these ejections. The ump is out of his mind. Clearly Terry Francona was right when he said, "What the bleep is wrong with you?"

That AAA ump was way over his head. They really shouldn't allow fill in ups behind the plate.

So with Kotsay coming back into the fold what happens with Bailey?
That backup 1st/5th OF seems to be the most likely spot for him to slide into, so where does Jeff end up? I assume he's had enough of RI for a lifetime so Pawtucket would figure to be out of the equation, does he get dfa'd? Does there figure to be any interest across mlb for this guy? He seems like he's destined for the aaaa life, hopefully for his sake he catches on somewhere and has a couple good years, ala Jack Cust.
Maybe we can package Penny w/ Bailey and get a better prospect than if it was just Penny.

Could penny and bailey and another prospect get us someone like Huff? Maybe.

Beckett was filthy tonight.

I don't think the Orioles want veteran pitchers at this point but Huff could be available. On a side note he gets picked off 3rd base tonight with the game tied 2-2. One of the most blatant base running errors i've ever seen.

What was up with Rick Sutcliffe making a JJ Hardy to Boston rumor. Something there?

I'm assuming that JJ is available for the taking. They have a SS in the waiting. Hardy was brutal to start the year, but is picking it up now. Not really sure what it would cost tho.

I actually really like Lowrie if he ever gets fully healthy. I think he'd be great in the 7-9 spot in a very Bill Mueller sort of way with a bit of power (15-20HR). Who knows though, this wrist thing has been dragging on forever.

Would think it would be a starter (Penny or some minor leaguer not named Bucholz).
