I'm glad the release wasn't unexpected for him. They had to make a roster spot for Wagner. I'll say this: Penny was fine this year. He was brought in here to be a 5th starter and was basically that. He had a decent stretch in the middle third of the season, so I'm not disapointed.

So it's basically down to Dice-K Jr and Buchholz for the 5th starter spot when Dice-K returns. I personally think Dice-K Jr can win the spot, if he keeps it up. We'll see. So rotation:

Becket
Lester
Wake
Dice-K
Dice-K Jr.

(emergency starter/long relief) - can stay on roster when rosters are opened up Sept 1
Buchholz
Paul Byrd

Playoffs
3rd starter = whoever has been pitching best between Wake, Dice-K, Dice-K Jr and Buchholz (or Byrd, but highly doubt it).
