Vasquez, Ellis Named NBA Players Of The Week

Greivis Vasquez was named the Western Conference Player of Week for games played Monday, December 24, through Sunday, December 30. This is the first time in Vasquez’s career that he has won a Player of the Week honor.

Vasquez led the Hornets to a 2-1 record, averaging 21.0 points, 10.0 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals while shooting 53.1 percent from the field. 

Monta Ellis received the honor in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA announced on Monday that LeBron James and Chris Paul today have been named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 17, through Sunday, Dec. 23.

James led the Miami Heat to a 3-0 week behind averages of 25.3 points (third in the conference), 7.7 assists (fourth in the conference), 8.0 rebounds and 1.67 blocks (eighth in the conference). He led Miami in rebounding in all three games and has opened the season with 20-plus point efforts in the Heat's first 24 games, matching the longest streak since Karl Malone opened the 1989-90 season with 24 consecutive 20-plus point outings.

Paul helped the Los Angeles Clippers to a 4-0 week behind averages of 16.3 points, a conference-leading 11.3 assists, and 3.50 steals, which tied for the conference lead with the San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard. Paul posted three point-assist double-doubles and collected two five-steal games for the Clippers, who have won 13 consecutive games.

Paul George, David Lee Named Players Of The Week

Paul George and David Lee have been named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 10, through Sunday, Dec. 16.

George led the Pacers to a 3-0 week which included wins over Central Division rivals Cleveland and Detroit. George averaged 23.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks. He shot .474 from three-point range on the week and ranks eighth in the league with 54 made three-point field goals on the season.

Lee helped the Warriors to a 3-1 record which included wins at Miami and Atlanta. Lee tallied 22.8 points on .606 shooting from the field, 12.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals. He posted a point-rebound double-double in all four contests and extended his double-double streak to seven consecutive games -- the longest such streak in the NBA this season.

Josh Smith, Blake Griffin Named Players Of The Week

The NBA announced on Monday that Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith and Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin are the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Dec. 9.

In helping the Hawks go 3-0 on the week, Smith ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference in scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.0 rpg), and tied for sixth in steals (2.00 spg). Smith grabbed a season-high 15 boards in a 104-95 win vs. Washington on Dec. 7, and followed that up the following night with a season-high three steals in a 93-83 triumph at Memphis.

Griffin averaged a point/rebound double-double in leading the Clippers to four wins in as many games. Among Western Conference players, Griffin ranked ninth in scoring (23.0 ppg), seventh in rebounding (10.0 rpg), and second in steals (2.50 spg). Additionally, Griffin's .639 field goal percentage ranked sixth in the conference. In a 117-99 win over Phoenix Dec. 8, Griffin recorded a career-best four steals to go along with 24 points and eight rebounds.

Lillard, Kidd-Gilchrist Named Best Rookies For November

The Charlotte Bobcats' Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and the Portland Trail Blazers' Damian Lillard have been named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in October/November.

Kidd-Gilchrist was the only rookie who ranked in the top 10 in scoring (10.9 ppg, fifth), rebounding (6.5 rpg, sixth), assists (1.5 apg. eighth), steals (1.2 spg, fourth) and blocks (1.3 bpg, second).

Lillard led all rookies in scoring (18.4 ppg), assists (5.9 apg) and steals (1.38 spg). He is the first NBA player to score at least 20 points in each of his first three NBA games since Grant Hill in 1994.

The Miami Heat’s LeBron James and the Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant have been named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in October/November.

James led the Heat to an Eastern Conference-best 11-3 (.786) mark, matching the team’s best start through 14 games. In the Eastern Conference, James ranked second in scoring (25.0 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.533), sixth in rebounding (8.9 rpg) and eighth in assists (6.5 apg).

Durant helped the Thunder to a 13-4 (.765) record and a four-game cushion in the Northwest Division. Durant ranked second overall in scoring (26.5 ppg) while shooting .510 from the field, .433 from behind the three-point line and .893 from the charity stripe. Additionally, Durant contributed 8.8 rpg, 4.4 apg and 1.65 bpg. He recorded his first career triple-double – 25 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists – in a 119-109 win over Golden State on Nov. 18.

The New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant today were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Nov. 26, through Sunday, Dec. 2.

Anthony helped lead the Knicks to a 3-1 mark, averaging a league-best 29.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Anthony scored over 30 points in two contests. In New York’s 106-99 home victory over the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 2, Anthony scored a game-high 34 points, and added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.

Durant guided the Thunder to a 4-0 week on the strength of 25.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 2.5 bpg. He shot .607 (34-of-56) from the field, .462 (6-of-13) from beyond the arc, and .897 (26-of-29) from the charity stripe. Durant scored a season-high 37 points in the Thunder’s 120-98 win over the Houston Rockets on Nov. 28.
