Some Agents Expect Owners To Seek Bigger Share Of BRI Due To COVID-19

Jun 22, 2020 11:19 AM

Some agents expect the NBA to opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement by using the force majeure provision due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

“I’m telling all my clients to opt in,” another agent said. “Although they won’t tear up the CBA if we actually have basketball this summer, they will want to make changes to BRI based on the overall losses.”

The NBA owners went from receiving 43 percent of revenues to anywhere between 49 and 51 percent of revenues with the 2011 lockout.

The NBA extended its current CBA with minimal changes in 2016 and runs through 23-24 with a mutual opt-out after 22-23.

NBA, Players' Union To Finalize Temporary Rules Ahead Of Orlando Resumption

Jun 20, 2020 3:55 PM

The NBA and the players' union are finalizing a temporary set of rules ahead of the league's potential resumption in Orlando.

The guidelines include several rules on signing players, including a transaction window from June 23rd to June 30th.

Other rules include the availability of players on two-way contracts to replace injured players. Teams will be able to sign substitute players from July 1st to August 14th to replace players who elected to stay at home.

Teams will also be able to replace players who test positive for COVID-19 up until the final day of the season, though the pool of available players will shrink to those with zero to three years of service in the NBA.

Newly signed players will be required to quarantine for seven days upon their arrival.
