Wild stat. Looks like offensive rebounding is really a focus this season. That bench also miss a ton of shots.
2022-23: 27th in offensive rebounding %
2023-24: 8th in offensive rebounding %
No surprise, much of that improvement is because of the bench, who lead the league in OREB%.

Some fun early returns from NBA.com
Jaylen Brown averaging 0.9 elbow touches per game. He still has not scored on them and turns it over 42.9% of the time.
Payton Pritchard is shooting 7.7% on catch and shoot threes.
Porzingis averages 2.4 post ups and 2.3 points post-up points per game. He's shooting 70.3%.
Jaylen drives 10.7 times per game and averages 5.9 points and 0.4 assists on them. Tatum drives 8.9 times per game and averages 9.9 points and 0.6 assists.
Derrick White shooting 100% in the clutch.
Jaylen shooting 66.7% from the corner 3, 35% from above the break. He's taken 60% of his threes from the corner this season.

Since it's 8 games approach with caution but if Jaylen's corner 3 rate is by design, maybe our schemes have changed, or losing Grant might have freed up Jaylen for more corner 3s.

It's a good thing there's a scheme.
Watching the Lakers vs. Suns game and it was a case of Lebron is the system for the Lakers and the Suns relied heavily on the 2-man game from KD or Beal.
Compared to the coaching of Ham and Vogel, Joe is looking like a genius.

Putting the words Joe and genius is the same sentence should be an immediate suspension or at least lead to some drug test administered.

Just goes to show our coaching is better.

The bench sucks though. Haven't you heard ?
The Celtics have been terrible at forcing turnovers under Mazzulla so it's nice to see them win on the boards and not automatically lose the possession battle.

Team's net when players are OFF the court. (So the biggest impact players are at the bottom.)

Idjits. Were they also talking about the Denver Nuggets bench last season? Don't they know that the Nuggets had the 2nd worst bench in the league in terms of net rating? "Bench production" is overrated. You know what's more important than having depth that led to Denver winning the title? Having a two-time MVP lead a for-once healthy roster (solid top 8).
Side note: The Nuggets had the #1 Starters Net Rating last season ahead of Boston. Those two teams have currently switched places (#1 BOS, #2 DEN).

Bench is helpful to hopefully leave the starters fresher going into the playoffs and maintain the leads the starters gave them. If they suck the starters play unnecessary minutes blowing leads. Playoffs is a different animal. Denver def won because Jokic was or is the best player in the world.

Hauser has been a monster since the first few games, just need Pritchard to hit some shots lol. Plus the mostly bench lineups are always in there with Tatum, so not worried about those minutes.

More worrisome is essentially having the worst offense (100.6 ORtg) and 2nd worst defense (122.8 DRtg) in the league with JB on the floor and JT off. Hopefully a small sample thing. Joe is trying everything from putting the other three starters with him or having either White/Jrue.

The offense is at least in part explained by the sudden total lack of ability to shoot; which is 85% noise aka we’re shootings 30% from the 3 and 22% from the corners in those minutes.
In fact they’re missing from everywhere when Tatum sits even though there are only minimal changes in shot profile. So that’ll normalize to a degree I expect. Hopefully by a lot but might still be subpar idk.
Defensively there’s some heavy midrange noise but opponents aren’t making 3’s either so that’s a bit iffy. Shot profile looks good again though but the main issue is they can’t rebound when JT sits and they go from not fouling at all to fouling a lot.
Might be worth it to go more double big when JT sits.
Ultimately it’s still all just small sample stuff but there is some eye test stuff to me that when it’s jrue kp and Jaylen without Tatum; the hierarchy gets messed up. Lots of awkwardness and folks not knowing who should take charge.
I’d probably run either more jrue kp units or Jaylen KP units. But what I’d actually would do is not stagger the jays anymore.

If you look at the stats of Sam Hauser & Grant Williams there isn’t much of a difference. Except for one stat. Sam Hauser has a much better defensive rating. Celtics knew what they were doing the whole time.

After 9 games, Boston has had the second hardest schedule in the NBA. Toronto first. Minnesota third. (This will change daily.)

I’ve never seen anything like this, honestly. The gap will obviously close quite a bit, but it’s been an all time start for Tatum, when it comes to impact.
