Clarkson to Sacramento

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 6:02 pm

If Monk leaves ...

SAC trades: Sasha Vezenkov, Davion Mitchell, 2025 POR 2nd
UTA trades: Jordan Clarkson

Utah sends Clarkson to a good team, gets a young player to look at, adds a veteran shooter who can probably be flipped for a 2nd, and adds a nice 2nd.

Sacramento replaces Monk without giving up premium assets.

I don't think Clarkson has much value at all coming off the season he just had at 31 to be honest

I do like this for both teams, but wouldn't Kings rather pay what Clarkson earns to keep Monk? I'm not sure Monk will get bigger than 20M per year offers. I'd rather have monk at 20M than Clarkson today

Clarkson's contract is 2/28.3m and Monk will probably get closer to 3/60.

I don't think Clarkson has positive trade value. The Jazz shouldn't have extended him above the taxMLE.

This would be a sneaky good move for Utah.

I think clarkson is a negative contract. Soon to be 32, has always had mediocre efficiency and it's only getting worse from here and is one of the worst defenders in the league. If they're trying to replace monk in this situation they should just pay more for sexton

Oh, my bad

Still, 3/60 still looks better I'd say, considering the range that Monk gives and Clarkson haven't(at least this year)
That 7M difference won't give the Kings the space to operate around I guess.

I like Clarkson, and at 13M he is a positive value, but Kings downgrade in talent nevertheless

Let's just expand the trade.

Collins + Clarkson for Huerter + Barnes + Sasha or Mitchell + Portland 2nd

I'd do that regardless if we resign Monk or not. I think Sac needs more guys who can create off the dribble and get their own shot.

Fox/Monk*/Mitchell
Keon/Clarkson/Colby
Keegan/
Collins/Lyles
Sabonis

George/
Sexton/Huerter
Barnes/Brice
Lauri/Hendricks/Sasha
Kessler

Would both sides do that?

I think Ainge might try to extract another SRP but it looks pretty good. I'm also assuming Utah might trade several more of their vets to be legitimately bad next season ahead of the '25 draft. Clarkson had a rough season overall but was playing really well when put back in his 6th man role before "the injuries/tank". He even had a triple double off the bench when the team was actually rolling before the deadline. Neither Clarkson or Collins are good defenders but I do think we haven't really seen the best of Collins yet either and he's still only 26. Playing next to Sabonis, instead of Kessler or Capela, might open up more in his game. Utah has had to play him as a small ball 5 but I do think there is still potential for him to thrive at PF if he's playing next to a big who can pass, shoot, and alter shots.

Of course the Kings should try to keep Monk but I'm not paying him more than 3/$60 mil.

Clarkson is also a perpetual heat check guy. Just shooting at random times, not running the offense. I don't think he would work in Sacto playing off Fox and Sabonis. One of the best parts of Malik Monk's game is that he can play on and off the ball. Lobs, in transition, catch and shoot, pin downs. He has turned into a really good NBA player.

I wouldn't do this with any of the parts from Sacramento. Not a fan of how inefficient Clarkson is.

Jazz should definitely do that. They need a hard reset, and Clarkson and Collins are just not in their future.
