I don't know that anyone, as of now, considers Kidd a good coach.
Here are the coaches I found that went from being a player to HC without experience lately.
Kidd, Nash, Kerr.. all were pretty successful right from the start.
So the narrative that Redick would be bad just because isn't really holding a lot of water for me.
Not saying he will be great because of it, but clearly for him to even be getting interviews despite no coaching experience shows how much teams respect him.
Compared to the majority of head coaches that come through the assistant pipeline. The hit percentage on new coaches is less than 50% when you look at the average teams coaching turnover. So it is not like the traditional route is some tried and true process that is going to guarantee results.
Clifford, Borrego came as highly regarded assistants just as Fernandez, Lee, Ott or Adelman would be.
