Danny has earned our faith. If Danny picked him, Giddens will be a player.

Those who question Ainge's drafting ability do so at great peril. So says the Great Book of Recent Drafting History.

Amen.

He's 6'5" and he's a great defender and the more I look at his profile the more I like the pick. Doc said Danny really likes this guy so he must be something special. He's TA' s replacement and fits in very well with us and can guard 3 positions.

there are plenty of bigs in free agency I don't think it's a big deal to get one in this draft. We picked a guy that will rarely play and has potential to fill a role that Tony Allen couldn't.

Looks like our rotational players will come from free-agency.

That is something that I find to be slightly inefficient. We don't have that much money for FA so why use a pick on a guy who's not going to get minutes? We still need a backup PG and C and Posey may take up some of our MLE.

Because he would not be able to make our team. He wouldn't see a minute. Backup C and pg were not going to be addressed in this draft. That is what free agency is for

DeAndre is a long way away from helping any team in the NBA, let alone the best in the league.

Giddens is a legit all american talent, at 6'5 he averaged 16.3/8.8/3.1/2.2 on 52% shooting while being a great defender.

Most draft people will say he is top 15 in this draft when it comes to talent, he can come in and play right away. He was a Mcdonalds all american but got introuble at Kansas. He only fell because of the offcourt problems, i like the pick.

He can defend/rebound/slash/pass, he isnt a great shooter but good enough. He also has a 7 foot wingspan i believe, he also was on good behavior this last year and playing on a team of veterans will keep him in check.

Jordan has been awful in workouts and interviews he may not get drafted. He showed up in T- shirts and shorts when other dudes were wearing suits.

Someone actually had this pick in a mock draft and I can't find.

As a player he is perfect kind of Ricky Davis/Bonzi Wells and as a person a lot like Ricky Davis and Bonzi Wells.

He is a better athlete than Walker and probably a better all around player at this point obviously an older more experienced guy.

I can't say I saw it coming or anything like that but if you were saying trust Danny before why not trust him now.

We didn't select Jordan... Giddens was a senior so he'll be ready to play. I wonder what this means for Pruitt

The rebounding ability is pretty unique for a 2-guard. What exactly were his offcourt/attitude problems?

While the pick was somewhat a shocker the more I read up on him the better it seems.

He's had some attitude issues but it seems to be behind him.

As other's have said, he will essentially replace TA for less money. With some seasoning and hopefully proper tutelage under Ray and Paul he'll meet his potential.

Good write up at Draft Express:

Man, I really thought after winning an NBA Championship Danny Ainge would get some benefit of the doubt, but apparently we really are the fellowship of the miserable.

If he took Sasha Kaun, I'd be with you guys. But c'mon - how can you not see that this guy fits our needs? What do we need most? A replacement for Posey and a future replacement for PP and Ray, even as they play when their minutes start being reduced. Giddens is a good defender, much better defender than CDR, and IMO a better team player than CDR. He's 6'5" and long, so I don't know why you guys call him a combo guard - he's a 2 all the way.

I love Mario Chalmers and would have loved him to give Pruitt competition, but I'm absolutely fine with this pick of Giddens. The kid is a senior and can definitely get minutes for us next year, particularly if we don't sign Posey or let Tony Allen go.

And talking about value on the board is absurd. Out of all the guys you guys mentioned (Jordan especially) 75% of them won't be in the league in 3 years anyway. This isn't that valuable of a pick, and we got a guy who's got some real upside.

If you guys are pissed about his personal issues, thats fair...but to get on the talent is ridiculous.

It means nothing to Pruitt. Pruitt is the backup point guard if he can earn the job. Giddens won't be taking his minutes.

Danny has shown himself to be one of the better drafters in the NBA, so i guess he sees something here. Besides he is a need. A high reward type guy, that has questions but if he busts won't ruin the franchise.

Most guys available at 30 are not going to crack the rotation of a championship team. Do we want a rookie point guard as our backup to our young PG? No you want a vet who isn't going to make mistakes, but we don't need to develop into a starter.

Also there are plenty of backup centers on the market and a 7 footer who is ready to help rightaway isn't going to last until 30, and as can be seen by the bevy of Euros selected already the high upside centers weren't falling to 30 either.

The book on him is that he isn't an amazing defender because he doesn't try. KG will either straighten that out, or kick his ass.
