Rank the NBA Teams (Post Draft Edition)

Post#1 » by One of Shemps Kids » Fri Jun 27, 2008 9:35 pm

As of right now (Including pending deals such as JO, RJ, etc but ignoring seemingly inevitable ones such as Billups traded, or 'Melo traded, etc)

West
1. Lakers
2. Spurs
3. Utah
4. Hornets
5. Portland
6. Phoenix
7. Dallas
8. Golden State
9. Houston
10. Denver (Mostly has to do w/ issues surrounding team, not talent)
11. Sacramento
12. Memphis
13. Clippers
14. Minnesota
15. Seattle

East -
1. Celtics
2. Pistons
3. Orlando
4. Toronto
5. Cleveland
6. Washington
7. Philadelphia
8. Chicago
9. Atlanta
10. Miami
11. Indiana
12. Charlotee
13. Milwaukee
14. New York
15. New Jersey

After the draft, obviously, most of the change seems at the bottom. I see Miami and Portland (and Memphis to a degree) improving significantly and New Jersey imploding to the bottom.

The west is so competitive and its so hard to get excited about a team that did nothing most of the year and had to rely on a 22 game win streak to make it to the playoffs. If that win streak was 10 games instead of 21 or 22, would they have even made the playoffs last year? And realistically, how many teams each year even get 10 game winning streaks? 2? 3?

Well the off-season has only begun. We are going to see plenty of teams improve and plenty of teams stand pat and do nothing. Anyways, I think we all know this by now, but just for the fun of it...

West
1 Lakers
2 Hornets
3 Jazz
4 Spurs
5 Blazers
6 Rockets (It's inevitable that one of Yao-T-Mac will miss a large chunk of games-- they need a 3rd option)
7 Nuggets
8 Suns
9 Mavericks
10 Warriors
11 Clippers --- Once they figure out their PG situation, I think they'll be a top 6 team. Gordon-Thornton-Brand/Kaman is deadly
12 Kings
13 Grizzlies
14 Timberwolves
15 Sonics

East

1 Boston
2 Pistons --- They'll slide down after they make inveitable changes
3 Magic
4 Raptors
5 Cleveland
6 Wizards
7 Heat
8 Hawks
9 Bulls
10 Sixers
11 Bobcats
12 Bucks
13 Knicks
14 Pacers
15 Nets

IMO the Sixers roster isn't enough to compete against what the Heat and Bulls have done and will be doing. The Hawks are just going to get better with another year together.

It's sad as nets fan to see the nets ranked at the bottom, especially since we've been one of the top teams in the east since 02(not this season of course). Not that I blame you guys since we're really gonna suck this year.

1 Lakers-Hornets-Rockets-Jazz
5-Spurs
6-Suns
7 Mavericks
8 Warriors
9 Nuggets
10 Blazers
11 Clippers (if healthy they are probably better than the kings without bibby and artest).
12 Kings
(rebuilding mode)
13 Timberwolves
14 Sonics
15 Grizzlies

East

1 Boston

2 Pistons (no real competition in the east).
3 Raptors (if it's true the J.O deal, they will probably get a class SG/SF and take it to another level).
4 Magic
I think there are a lot of teams in the same level after these 4, anyone can make the playoffs. maybe Pacers and Nets become the worst teams in the league after all... Heat, Bulls, Bucks, Knicks and Bobcats will be better next season than this last season.
Dont know about Sixers, Wizards, Hawks and Cavs, they can become better or worst.

Rockets did bad in the first 2 months of the regular season because it was Adelman first year, i doubt that will happen again, i mean humiliating defeats against Grizzlies, Sixers or Kings.
Of course next season we will lose against worst teams than us, but i'am sure Rockets team will be more consistent than this year.

a healthy clippers team is challenging for a playoff spot, not fighting the grizzlies/sonics/twolves for a shot at the worst record in the west. i really don't see an argument for the clips to be below any of those teams.

yea Utah needs a change of philosphy, a defensive center and a scorer at SG..not what they have in Brewer and Okur.

My list isn't based on how teams did last year, but how I expect them to do this year, given the rosters that they currently have. It's not very conventional, so I expect some fans to flame me, but I'll indicate right here that I'll ignore everyone that calls me a "hater" or "idiot".

East
1. Celtics
2. Heat
3. Pistons
4. Cavaliers
5. Magic
6. Raptors
7. Bulls
8. Wizards
9. Hawks
10. Sixers
11. Bucks
12. Bobcats
13. Knicks
14. Nets
15. Pacers

West
1. Lakers
2. Jazz
3. Spurs
4. Hornets
5. Rockets
6. Blazers
7. Mavericks
8. Warriors
9. Nuggets
10. Suns
11. Clippers
12. Kings
13. Timberwolves
14. Sonics
15. Grizzlies

Chiiill, im just saying.. in the playoffs Boozer and Okur had a combined 10 blocks and 84 personal fouls...thats just my opinion that they need a shotblocker, cause theyre set other than that.

I was reffering to what you said about Brewer.

We don't need a shot blocker, we need big body's. The blocked shot is the most overated stat in the NBA.

Well the Milwaukee Brewers are having a pretty good season right now and are fighting for a playoff spot for those who listed them in this thread. As for the Bucks, I think we'll be a good team next year, where that will put us? I don't know. Our roster isn't complete yet.

Shotblockers also (usually) alter a ton of stats. Shotblocking may be an overrated stat but shotblockers aren't.

Cleveland, at worst, is 3rd in the East. Ask the Boston Celtics who the best team they faced in the NBA Playoffs was. James Posey said it was Cleveland and during the mid-point of the Detroit series both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett mentioned in 1 way or another that they were just happy not to be playing Cleveland.

The Cavs defend, rebound, and they have LeBron.
