Don't have to worry about Wizards competing anytime soon with those contracts handed out...

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
Even with Gilbert their no defense team will still win a little less than 50 games, get bounced by Lebron in the 1st round, or if they get a lucky draw, get bounced in the 2nd round.
(this is the part where Wiz fans insist the team was better defensively this year, whereas fans of teams who play average-to-good defense laugh at how lowered their expectations must be to think this year's team is good defense)
I honestly and truly believe that if Gilbert walked... and Washington replaced him with a solid 20ppg scorer (good percentage shooter) who can play good D, they would be a better team. Run the offense through Caron.

No, the Wizards thrive on pushing the pace. Since they're not getting Calderon or Nash, I question the ability to let him walk without losing a beat.

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
I thought Areneas was opting out to get a MAX contract.
If WAS signs him to 6yr/100 mil. Well that's fair price for what he is. I may not like him but he's certaintly one of the most talented franchise players out there and I'll gain some respect for him if he accepts.
If he holds out for a MAX contract then my opinion of him will remain unchanged and the team holding his rights will regret paying him 20 mil for the next 6 years.

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
I'm surprised Arenas is offered this much. I mean 25 mill a year potentially?
He's recently come off of the knee surgery so we don't know what his peak is yet considering this. I wish him the best of luck though. If he can take this deal good for him. I don't think he is worth it but all the power to him.
Its better if the Warriors could keep Baron, he's worth this contract more because he's a better player IMO and is currently healthy. At least Baron can create shots for his team and play defense better.

I definitely think 100 mill is reasonable for Arenas, but according to that espn segment no other team could offer him that much, so are they just doing it not to get him upset or something and to show how loyal/dedicated they are?
Other teams can only go 5 years though, while Washington's offer would be for 6 years. 5 years 80 million is an average of $16 million, while 6 years 100 million is an average of $16.7 million, so not much difference.

The difference might be slight, but it's still around $4M he's giving up. -- That's a few cars, houses, jewelry.......
Might not be a lot, but it is still a lot......

Yeah to the average person, but to them, it won't really factor in to which team they prefer to play for.

If Lewis was a free agent this year, he'd be getting the MLE somewhere.
He damn sure lucked out last year when he was the only 'big-name' free agent.
(Lucked out is an understatement with his contract)

Seeing Gilbert back in a warrior jersey would be great. 2 second round gems leading the backcourt, they would make tons of noise.

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
If this goes down... another B.S contract from a B.S GM.
No one is worth 20 million a year, only 2-3 players imo.
Baron Davis is about to sign for 65 Million for 5 years.... thats an incredible deal. He is worth more than Arenas, as he plays better overall.
I'd only play Arenas 75~80 Million for 5-6 years tops.
If Wizards sign him to a 100 Million contract... just shows no one in that management wants to win a ring.
Boozer 136 Million?
Haha, another ridiculous contract.... he is a good big, but no way near 136 Million. Tim Duncan 3-4 seasons ago would be slightly over paid with that contract.... imagine Boozer.
Whom ever gave Rashard Lewis that contract needs to die.... DIE a horrible death. Ruined team/player fair negotiation. All players have to do is use Rashard Lewis's mediocre performance with his contract to squeeze money from teams.

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
The Wizards deal would be for 6 years, not 5 years, so it is not $20 million a year, it is $16.7 million year, I thought that was already established? While I don't agree that Baron is worth more than Arenas, I will digress from that and let it be.
But I'll just say go back to what millertime said. The Wizards are already over the cap, Arenas is the only big name guy that they can sign. All they need to do is make sure that they keep themselves under the luxury tax when they sign him.

Re: Gilbert Arenas could potentially get 100M
ESPN changed their report. WAS is now (or always was since this is what Gilbert wants) 6yrs for near 127mil
Guy thinks he's among the best in the NBA, always has, and stated he was opting out to sign for max. He'll be a 20mil a year player.
Better updated that headline to 127 mil.

That's the contract our owner offered. However, there are reports that our management is talking to Gilbert to accept our offer but take a paycut (as Gilbert said he'd take if it meant cap flexibility).
The reason we are in a position to ask this is because 127mil for 6 years would put us over the cap the following season and limit the ability to improve our roster, and because we have done what Gilbert wanted -- resigned one of his best friends, Antawn Jamison, to a more than fair offer. Arenas stated that if we payed Antawn well, then he'd take a paycut.
He's currently in China doing some Addidas sponsorship work and, from these reports, is discussing just how much less money he's going to take. Both parties are going to wait until Friday (IIRC) when each team's cap numbers are released to see what Gilbert's contract will indeed be. Good news for Wizards fans.

500k a year would be a fair deal for superstars. Role players should get somewhere between 100k-250k a year. Playoff bonus of 100k and champions bonus of 500k.
This millions business is ridiculous. We're discussing whether 100 million is fair or not.

Tell me about it. Especially when you have teachers who aren't even able to support their families.
I guess that's the price for entertainment...

I guess the owners should take a pay cut too. People pay millions to watch these guys play ball not teachers teach. Plus their is only 400 NBA players in the world, their are millions of teachers. Great basketball players are in high demand.
The Wizards need to lock Arenas up in a deal asap now that the Warriors lost B-Diddy.

If the Wizards end up paying Arenas a contract worth 125+ mil, they're going to regret it for a LONG time. They'd better hope they can convince him to take a paycut.
