If we can't get Posey who should we go after

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Wed Jul 2, 2008 6:45 am

One name I thought might be a good fit was Michael peitrius, can hit a 3 and defend, not as good a shooter as posey but maybe we could get him to practice 500 spot up 3's morning and night all summer. Quinton Ross, and Keyon Dooling are 2 more guys to look at (i know dooling is a PG). If we can't get Posey or Maggete it might not be a bad idea to toss the full midlevel at Josh Childress another long guy who is willing to defend. If we can't get posey (other then Maggete) who should we go after?

I don't like Pietrus at all. Dooling and Childress aren't bad choices IMO. Honestly though, I know we will end up with either Maggs or Posey.

I would be very happy to add any of Posey, Maggette, or Pietrius.

Tony Allen would possibly be very cheap so if Posey left and we couldn't get any of them then perhaps resign Tony as the back up wing player and free up a bit more money to after someone like Diop.

Also, it would might be a good idea to sign free agents for short contracts (like we did for House, Pollard and Posey) in case Giddens and Walker turn out to be keepers. Not many quality free agents (unless they only want a chance to win a ring) would be happy to take 2 year contracts like Posey did.

As stated in many other threads Gomes would be alright

ATL would match a MLE offer for Childress. We should get Josh Smith...I can dream right?

I'd love to bring in Quinton Ross. He can really get after it on the defensive end and I think he's a better offensive player than what he showed with the Clips. I don't think it would cost a lot either.

Ross is another guy I like, imagine if we sign 2 ex-Clippers afterwinning it all

Posey,Tony Allen, Maggs or Ross.....I'm hoping we get two of them, just not Allen & Ross(that would be bad). Maggs & Posey :D :D

After actually looking at the free agent list, here are some guys I would personally not mind seeing in Green. These are only unrestricted free agents too.

Josh Childress - Good defender and rebounder, though not a lot of scoring for the second unit
Matt Barnes - Could be a decent role player
Patrick O'Bryant - Possibly a bust? Maybe Clifford Ray and KG could get something out of his talent though
Mickael Pietrus - A downgrade from Posey but a similar player who is a lot younger and more athletic
Corey Maggette - Would be a very nice addition though I think out of our price range
Quinton Ross - Could be a nice fit
DeSagana Diop - Similar to Perk: young, good rebounder and post defender, limited offensively
Bostjan Nachbar - Has some talent
Jannero Pargo - Certainly played well this last season
Maurice Evans - Could be a good second unit guy
Kwame Brown - If really cheap, again maybe Clifford and KG could get something out of his talent

Funny, I suggested Quinton Ross a long time ago in a different thread.

I'd say in order of preference

1. Maggette

2. Pietrus

3. Ross

James Jones is another guy to consider. Great 3-point shooter and solid defender.

Yeah there are a lot of options. Honestly it's great there are first tier options and second tier. I would add Ricky Davis to the list just on talent and ability alone although obvious he wouldn't play a role like Posey's.

My tier I: Magette,Posey,Ricky,Pietrus

My tier II: Ross,James Jones,Barns,Childress

probuly missing some.

i like maurice evans alot. he'd be pretty cheap. i also like james jones. he can knock down shot after shot. he learned from reggie miller so you know he know's what he's doing.

i like those two players (after posey & maggette, of course)

if we could get a combo of posey or maggette and jones or evans, i'd be a very very happy camper.

posey/evans
or
maggs/jones
