Re: Turiaf signs with Warriors
This coupled with the Maggette signing doesn't make much sense at all for GS....why not save your money and go after the young guys, even if they're RFAs? Deng, Iguodala, SMITH, Okafor, etc....at least then they'd have the potential to land a significant player.

Re: Turiaf signs with Warriors
I think people are overreacting. 4 years/ 17 millions is not that big of a deal. Especially for a guy who hustles and is an active participant on both sides of the ball. Turiaf does more good than bad, and if he plays more I think his production can increase.

I think he fits the Warriors, but 4/17 is definitely overpaying.

seriously question? i'll try to answer it seriously.
turiaf is a poor offensive player, no post moves, average to below average mid range game. hustle defense which is good, but foul prone because of that. Good shot blocker, terrible rebounder. will play about 10-15 minutes, any more and the team playing him will lose. the guy is also capped, does anyone believe turiaf is going to get better? well, maybe the warriors do.

maggette is damn good, he'll be worth it for the first 2 or 3 years. the 4th and the 5th with him being 34 35 is when it'll hit them hard, both cap wise and team wise.
and thats really not the point either, whether maggette deserves it or not because he does dserve a big pay out. the point is the warriors have no PG, no PF (just potential), and NO BENCH. this is no time to give out a big contract for a position you already have. thats just my opinion though.

Maggette is just like Rashard last year. The only teams with any real cap are the Clippers, Sixers and Memphis. Mephis isnt doing anything and Sixers weren't eying him. Maggette hates Dunleavy and has wanted to leave for years. 7-8 million would have nabbed him easily. Maggette was in a bind and GS bailed him out.

Re: Turiaf signs with Warriors
Since when is a 4 yr $17 million contract a huge cap binding deal? I think this is a good move for the Warriors. Role players help you win games, and that what Ronny is. He will bring energy, toughness, and shot blocking off the bench. He can also hit a 15 footer.
I really wouln't be shocked if the Lakers matched, this isn't that bad of a contract.
Yes, he gets into foul trouble but who the hell cares he won't play enough minutes to foul out. The Lakers will miss him off their bench, he was a great backup to Bynum/Gasol.
God I hope the Lakers lose Sasha too...

Let me put it to you this way. We loved Ronny for his attitude and cheer quite a bit. We could not stand the fact that he was a terrible rebounder.

Luxury tax makes it $34mil for the Lakers. Turiaf isn't worth 17mil and he's certainly not worth 34. The guy isn't getting any better. He's a nice hustle guy off the bench and a decent backup PF.

I bet Landry would get 8m/year from Mullin if he was available.

Ronny infinitely better than Luke Walton and Radmonavich. ANd he is getting payed less and shorter contract. Lakers aren't going to have cap space for a while and considering lakers have zero back up PF other than Ronny there is no way lakers not match that.

Re: Turiaf signs with Warriors
Yeah, 4.25 mil really isn't that much for a big man who can play defense and block shots.
It's a very easy contract to trade if you are the Warriors and things go sour, and anytime you can get a rotational big for four years and less then 20 Mil you really have probably made a pretty good deal.

Turiaf isn't a good defender, he just blocks shots or fouls. And he isn't a good rebounder either. He's just a decent hustle guy. He's a good locker room guy and a nice story, but he isn't a very good player. He's not worth 4 mil a year.

Re: Turiaf signs with Warriors
I think the Turiaf signing is solid. The Maggette contract is over the top, considering the best he was getting was the MLE ($5+ mil), but the think GS is rebounding nicely from losing Davis and missing out on Brand.

This is a crazy offseason. Why would he sign to the Warriors when he just came from the NBA finals with the Lakers ?

They gave him 17 milliion reasons to move from LA up to the Bay Area.

Don't pack his bags so fast, The Lakers will likely match.

I would be very surprised if the Lakers matched that. With Bynum coming back, Turiaf was not going to play much anyway unless someone got hurt. I doubt Kupchak/Buss are going to pay the luxury tax for someone like Turiaf.
