Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
I love the signings
Tony needs an important, defined role and i have no doubt he will kick ass
First non-big off the bench
He plays elite defense, and can give consistent offense
With injuries and off court crap worked out----he could have a real special season
Eddie taken it to da House
is my man
never misses games
plays hard as hell and is effective
as far as i'm concerned he has the green light at all times
Add Bonzi and call it '09 champs

Bonzi is such a huge question mark. He wasn't very good last season at all.
But I am a firm believer that any player that comes to Boston will work hard because KG and Co will definitely influence them.

bonsaiflipflops wrote:So, House's the veteran at point guard, huh? Pruitt better be the bleep next season or else Rondo will be averaging forty minutes a game. Too much pressure on Pruitt. I hope he doesn't fail. Because you've one point guard, a combo guard and a shooting guard. Let's hope that that's a positive mix in the back court.
I know, who else was Ainge going to sign? But, I would've preferred, if House had resigned, playing him more as an off guard and Ainge signing another true point guard like Rondo. Oh, well... We'll see how this turns how. Again, I'm crossing my fingers that Rondo doesn't get seriously injured and Pruitt's impressive in season two. Because Ainge's really gambling here more so on Pruitt working out.
Don't forget that TA can play PG if needed.

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
Ricky Davis for other half of MLE
Birdman for LLE
Walker to Europe/NBDL
/Offseason
Davis and Tony behind Paul and Ray
Birdman and POB behind Perk
House and Pruitt behind Rondo
BBD and Powe behind KG
Keeps KG from playing center, gives us lots of offense behind our wing starters, PG is the same as last year Pre-Cassell (which most of us preferred anyway).

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
If we are depending on Tony, shouldn't we depend on him rather then add another player like a good Tony in Bonzi?
I'd rather support some players behind Perkins. Perk struggled the first half of the season last time he needed shoulder surgery and his backup big is a top 10 pick that couldn't get 10 minutes due to his inability to use his skills. I think we need to protect ourselfs against an inconsistent play from Perkins season concerning fouls.
Looking at the East there are about 7 good teams now, so getting that #1 seed in the playoffs is more important then before.

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
If Tony Allen has to play point guard this season, the Celtics are going to be in trouble.
As for the two guys coming back. I'm happy Eddie House is coming back. He's an instant offense player off the bench. He's full of energy and I just like the guy. But I do agree with the poster who said that Gabe Pruitt better be ready to play the backup point guard spot.
Now to Tony Allen. I've been disappointed since the day we got TA. I know he has talent, but I still think he's a meathead. He played a very very small role on the team last season and I think there were better options out there for Ainge to choose from. Hopefully TA can stay healthy and be a 6th man the team is going to need. With this move the team is going to have to use Powe and Big Baby a bit more. Posey's ability to slide to the power foward spot is something TA just can't do.

I am just so happy to wake up and see this this, as I have been a TA supporter for a long time. I am also glad that we signed House back too as he is a great shooter off the bench and he really worked on his defense last year with good results. Tony will give us more than Posey did last year and it will make us all forget about losing him.

I like the signins because we know the guys and the contracts are reasonable. Way to not overpay DA. I would like to see Bonzi on this team. Or as Mike Gorman calls him, a poormans Paul Pierce.

Would you've preferred J. Williams over House?
I think Williams will end up signing with Orlando, so Ainge got the deal done with House.

If House isn’t willing to settle for a one-year deal which Boston reportedly wants to give him, the Celtics may try to sign Miami’s Jason Williams to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum contract. Providence Journal

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
AS far as Tony being miserable last year...he was given the reigns against the Lakers and had a 16 point, 50%, 5 for 5 FT, 4 TO in 42 minutes (1 more than PP and KG) effort. A long way from suckage as Rondo certainly didn't play better at LA in the playoffs (except for game 4). He only had 4 assists but was limited in his role in that game plan
I'm glad that DA did what was needed for # 17 but I think Tony is a long way from being even as boneheaded as Ricky Davis, who a lot of you are screaming for. He doesn't volume shoot, dishes the ball in the paint and plays defense.
That said, he remains an injury liability.

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
More details on the signings:
Looks like House's second year is a player option and we have definite interest in Devean George.
The Celtics agreed to terms with guards Eddie House and Tony Allen to return, general manager Danny Ainge announced today. Both will get two-year contracts (though House's second year is a player option, according to an NBA source). House's deal was made using a portion of the team's $5.5 million mid-level exception. According to the source, House will make $2.7 million next season and $2.9 million the year after if he excercises his option.
House, who will enter his second season with the team, averaged 7.5 points and 19 minutes per game during the regular season, but those averages dropped to 2.5 points and just under 8 minutes in the postseason. Allen, who will enter his fifth season in green, averaged 6.6 points and just over 18 minutes per game during the regular season and 1.3 points in about 4 minutes per game in the playoffs.
***
Agent Mark Bartelstein, who also represents House, said the Celtics are interested in another of his free-agent clients: forward Devean George, who averaged 3.7 points per game for the Mavericks last season. The 31-year-old George played on three Lakers title teams.

I am getting tired of defending him and can easily we accused of being a Ricky fanboy (hence the screen name), but what makes Ricky even close to as boneheaded as TA?
TA is a guy that took himself out for a year by doing a highlight dunk after the whistle, TA is a guy that even after his body has rehabbed can't get his head back in the game, TA is a guy that 'allegedly' got someone shot by giving someone in his posse the go-ahead, TA is a guy that cant put sentences together in interviews.
Ricky is a guy that 'allegedly' likes to party and once missed a shot off of his own hoop for stats.
Give me the 15 ppg scorer who enjoys a couple drinks and soem night life after the game, then the guy that is the definition of inconsistent and shoots people.
...
With that said, I like Allen and admit he's shown promises, but it just bugs me that the general sentiment on this board during Ricky's tenure was about how far he's come and how he's past his child hood antics and all that, then as soon as we traded him everyone justified it with all these off-the-court stories.
If there is a serious issue with undermining Pierce then he will see to it that Ricky isnt brought in, but if all this is bs generated to appease a fanbase that lost a fan favorite (as I suspect), then Ricky might just be the energy and scoring punch we need off the bench.

That took a lot of fear off my back.
We do need one more key bench player to be as good as we were last year, though.

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
Ricky and Tony are similiar players in that they both take too much heat - for rather suspect reasons. They were put on top scorers - and asked to stop them and failed. Both will make over-enthusiatic passes on occasion and both sometimes handle the ball too much for their skill level.
I am pleased to have TA back as I believe he could really produce a lot more. Much like Ricky while he makes some dumb plays - he makes some pretty good ones too.
that being said - Ricky looked like garbage down in Miami. He has significantly worsened from what I saw from when he was here. It could be the Miami maliase or a sign of an early decline.. So I am not sure we need him back at this point. I would like a more pure SF - Ricky is almost a pure 2 guard.

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
We still need to go thru Cleveland, Atlanta, and LA to win titles. Without Posey, who off the bench will guard LaBron, JJ, Kobe. Other than wearing out PP, we have no long defensive specialist on the bench. This may come back to hurt us. These 3 have eaten TA up due to their height. This is the only reason why the TA signing doesn't make sense - can't defend the key opponents, can't shoot consistent 3's. Lot's of redundancy at the shooting guard position. Could TA be a sign and trade?

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
Ricky and TA are both boneheads. And I don't really care much about off-court stuff or shooting at your own hoop or whatever. I'm talking about on-court.
The difference is that TA gives 100% effort all the time on defense. Ricky gives full effort maybe half the time, if that. TA is still young and has the possibility to be less boneheaded (which he was when he got regular minutes). Ricky is who he is at this point, he's not going to give you anything different. Finally, TA is a guy who by all account listens to teammates and tries hard. Ricky? not so much.
Ricky may be more talented, but I'll take TA for our team anyday.

TA can't be a sign-and-traded, which has to include contracts for 3 years or greater. Maybe somebody else gets traded though.
We might be losing out on length, but I'd rather Tony guarded LeBron, JJ, or Kobe. I'm sure you watched the playoffs, as I did, and it seemed to me that while Posey made the clutch plays, he also got beat off the dribble much too much. That won't happen to Tony. And he isn't too short to bother the shots of Kobe and JJ. Given the minutes, he's play Kobe about as well as one can. As for LeBron, I think we know the strategy is to keep him out of the lane. Tony can do that better than Posey, in my opinion Add to that the fact that Paul Pierce will get most of the important minutes at the 3 anyway, I think we're making too much of the fact that Tony doesn't have prototypical length for the 3. For 12 minutes a game, especially given the mismatches he'll create on the offensive end.

Hmmm.... I'm not too keen on Devean George overall, but he's got experience and can shoot the 3 a bit. If Walker goes overseas for a year, and we sign another big (Andersen?), I think I will be very happy with the offseason. We'll miss Posey, but the team might actually be better since the core will have a year together under their belt.
Hey you! Can we come together?

Re: BREAKING: Tony and House to Sign
huh....great news? Where I just heard we signed tony allan again (uh.....I am not a fan) and overpaid eddie house. I am glad we kept house, I would have gladly used the LLE for 2 years on him but now we dont have the full midlevel to throw at somoene who gets released durring the season or a JR smith or childress type we could have at least tried with...color me indifferent, we wasted a few mil on tony he will rot on the bench, we needed someone long to defend tall 3's we still havent gotten that, I would have much rather gotten quinton ross then tony, heck even ricky davis over tony.
