Jerrod Washburn?
Buster Olney says the Yankees are seriously looking into Washburn to be their fifth starter. Washburn is owed $10.35M next year. He says the Yanks would only have to give up Kei Igawa and a secondary prospect. Washburn has great numbers at Yankee Stadium in his career, and is an innings eater as a #5.
What do you think about Washburn coming here? If we can dump Igawa and the prospect isn't anyone of consequence, I guess it makes some sense.

Yeah, I like Burnett more too, but I would think we would have to give up a lot more then Igawa and a middle of the road prospect for him. I'm not in love with Washburn, never really thought that highly of him, but for that price I guess I would do it.
However our rotation for next year should be:
Joba
Wang
Pettitte (assuming he comes back)
Hughes
Kennedy/Moose (if he comes back)
Where does Washburn fit there?

well a move like this is a "now" move where we dont consider the what ifs for next yr.....i think this move for this price u have to make
but like i said, i like burnett and would give the prospect needed to get him provided we can work on tat clause he has

I would do this trade in a second....
Jarrod Washburn for Kei Igawa and Alberto Gonzalez.

I've been saying Washburn for weeks now. If you can get him for Igawa and a midlevel prospect, you do it. Ponson and Rasner have been pretty good, but can we really rely on them for the rest of the season?

I'm all for it.
Get it done because I would rather have him in than Ponson (especially considering the fact I'm going to the game sunday against the sox haha)

It looks like these talks are pretty serious. Since Washburn and Igawas remaining salaries are pretty equal, the M's want us to take Jose Vidro also. He is not having a good year, but he is a career .298 hitter who may help us off the bench. Is he better then Alberto Gonzalez or Justin Christian? I guess, he has no power and no speed and can't play a position, but if the M's insist, do we make that trade?
Washburn and Vidro

As long as the minor leaguer is somebody like Alberto Gonzalez, this trade is a no-brainer.

Re: Jerrod Washburn?
Washburn apparently fixed a mechanical issue in his pitching motion so that's why he's been able to turn it around. I like the idea. Jose Vidro is awful, though.

Re: Jerrod Washburn?
His peripherals have made no improvement over those 8 starts, which makes me think the "fixed mechanical issue" is BS and he's just gotten lucky. Seriously, Washburn is awful now and wouldn't be a big upgrade (if any) over Ponson or Rasner. He's probably still better than Igawa, but that doesn't help the Yankees. Plus, Washburn is owed a a bit more money over the rest of his contract. The second Vidro came into discussion, Cash should have walked.

Re: Jerrod Washburn?
According to the Star Ledger the Mariner's don't want Kei Igawa(surprise). Instead the Yankees are discussing Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner for Washburn and Vidro. Are they nuts? Washburn isn't some rising star or solid pitcher. He is an upgrade over Rasner/Ponson and an innings eater at best and that isn't worth Melky or Brett. -Jitpal

Re: Jerrod Washburn?
I agree, Washburn is an ok four or five, not worthy of our starting CF by any means. I wouldn't even mind taking Vidro if it was just Igawa going the other way, but if we start talking Melky or Gardner Cashman needs to look somewhere else. Unfortunately this sounds like its going to happen.
I would much rather go after someone else, I don't even think a SP should be our top priority. With Wang coming back in September and Hughes/Kennedy getting closer I still think we should be looking at a LF/CF who hits right handed. I'd vote for Bay, but there are plenty of other names out there.

Well the Mariners aren't really dealing from a position of strength. Not many teams would even consider taking Vidro back along with eating the difference between Washburn and Igawa's salary.
