I hope that Begarin plays in Summer League.
I'd like to get more of an NBA look at him.

Never understood the benefit of a talented player like Begarin staying overseas (B League in France?) vs here on a two way playing in the G-league + learning from our NBA teammates + Pro coaches and training staff.

His team, Paris Basket, was promoted to the A league at the end of this season as the result of the relegation system. As for the benefit? I think it primarily has to do with roster space. The Celtics clearly have to make decisions on shuffling their roster, clearing out some bodies to allow for the signing of a veteran or two. They already have Nigel Hayes who is waiting for word of a guaranteed roster spot. Everything is still in a state of flux. Will we make a trade? If so, how will that affect our roster situation? Will Fournier re-sign? As for Begarin, given his age, and need for a bit more seasoning, as well as the Celtics' stated "we don't want to get younger" plan, it looks like he will likely be playing in France next year.

His dunks look cool and he shoots well in highlight videos. I'm sold.

Doesn't cost anything, leaves you the 2-way spots for other players, and doesn't start the contract control clock ticking. Also, perhaps better selfless, defensive and skill habits in overseas leagues than the G-league.

$$$
same reason we would trade the 16th pick to lessen one year of Kemba's contract. It's good for the owners pockets.

He has good foot work and handles. Good form on his shot and strong build. Drives to the basket well. Long arms stands out. At 18, he already has an NBA body. Stash for a year or two since the Celtics have enough young guys and are going with vets more this season.

same level of prospect as SGA. NBA ready body. Smooth, powerful, in control, with nice touch. Like SGA he’s a legit combo guard but probably more suited to play like Cade. #5 on my board. Had there not been COVID and scouts were able to travel freely to watch him, he’d have gone lottery IMO. After Tatum he’s the best prospect we’ve drafted since Bias. True superstar potential right there with the other top guys from this class

My initial impression was a more athletic less polished Dinwiddie.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

Re: Welcome to Virtual Boston, Juhann Begarin!
If we were a bad team in the early stages of a rebuild like DET, ORL and HOU, he'd probably be handed the starting PG job. He's without a doubt in my mind the most talented PG currently in our system. But we really need to win in order to keep Tatum happy so we can't really afford to bring him over and let him fail while developing. We'd lose a year of control as well and while he would be more ready next season, starting the clock on him now isn't worth it. There's no chance he's stashed for more than a season though. Way too talented. I gotta say, between Begarin, Hauser and getting rid of Kemba, the Brad regime is off to a promising start.

Has a bit of a more athletic Marcus Smart type vibe to him.

Saving the year of rookie contact savings I guess. Especially as we try to stay under luxury tax. I would imagine we have him go play for euroleague team next year. Like they did with Zizic.
