Andrew Bogut will become eligible for a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 25th and he's hopeful of getting a new deal.

Bogut is currently scheduled to become a free agent in 2017.

The Warriors figure to have a busy offseason as they're expected to pursue Kevin Durant, while they also have the restricted free agencies of Festus Ezeli and Harrison Barnes to contend with.

"Yeah, I do," he said of hoping to get a deal done this summer. "But we'll see what happens. We all hear the rumors of other guys coming through here, so if that kind of stuff happens they'll be some shedding of some contracts so who knows what can happen. But you'd be silly to try and leave what's going on right now.... We'll have a few of us that will have opportunities. Obviously I'm contracted for next year, but at the same time if he they offer me an extension I'll definitely listen.

"Nothing's a given in this league. It's a physical league. Either way. I can do a deal now or wait an extra year and get more, it's not going to really change me financially too much. I've been pretty smart with my money. I can retire today and still not have to work another day in my life. It's not going to be a point where I'm going to be, 'Who's going to give me the most money.' It'll be the lifestyle, it'll be what's the team like, is the team any good. And the writing on the wall here is to try to stick around as long as they want me."

Bogut is willing to take less money for the guaranteed money of an extension.

"Yeah, but I'm not a greedy guy and I'm not stupid either," Bogut said. "I know I can get undercut by Amar'e Stoudemire and fall and break my other elbow. In my position, with the physicality that we take, I'd definitely listen to offers."

Bogut doesn't have a hunch on whether he will be able to get something done with the Warriors.

"No feel at all," he said when asked for his read on whether he will have a new contract before the end of summer. "Haven't discussed it. Who knows. This league's a funny league. Like I said, if those moves that are rumored happen there'll be a few of us that are gone. The way we can probably nip that in the bud is win another championship and they're forced to bring us back. They're stuck with us for longer."

The Golden State Warriors could break the all-time regular season wins record as they work to defend their title.

Joe Lacob believes the Warriors' results are a product of their master plan.

“The great, great venture capitalists who built company after company, that’s not an accident,” he said. “And none of this is an accident, either.”

Lacob believes the Warriors are playing in a more sophisticated way than the rest of the NBA.

“We’ve crushed them on the basketball court, and we’re going to for years because of the way we’ve built this team,” he said. But what really set the franchise apart, he said, was the way it operated as a business. “We’re light-years ahead of probably every other team in structure, in planning, in how we’re going to go about things,” he said. “We’re going to be a handful for the rest of the NBA to deal with for a long time.”

Lacob bought the Warriors in 2010 and used his experience in the world of venture capital to create the structure of the franchise.

“In venture capital, I started 70 companies,” he told me. “I also watched my partners’ deals, maybe 200 of them. That’s a lot of companies. I thought about the way we design a board of directors, the way we design the financing. There’s an architecture to it. And I started thinking about the architecture I would use when I owned and built my own team someday.”

It certainly helps to have a player of the caliber of Stephen Curry, but Lacob sees the success of one of the league's most transcendent players as part of the entire infrastructure.

“It’s not just Steph Curry,” said Lacob. “It’s architecting a team, a style of play, the way they all play together. It’s all extremely thought through.”

Nike had the opportunity to keep Stephen Curry during the 2013 offseason after he started 78 games and help lead the Golden State Warriors to the Western Conference Finals.

Curry's godfather, Greg Brink, works for Nike and he also wore the shoes growing up. Curry wore Nike at Davidson and wore Nike Zoom Hyperfuse for his 54-point game in 2013 at Madison Square Garden.

"I was with them for years," Curry says as part of an excellent feature story by ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss. "It's kind of a weird process being pitched by the company you're already with. There was some familiar faces in there."

According to Nick DePaula of The Vertical, Nike has signed 68 percent of NBA players, more than 74 percent if you include Nike's Jordan Brand subsidiary.

Nike met with Curry in August and LeBron James' adviser Lynn Merritt was not present as Nico Harrison, a sports marketing director at the time ran the meeting.

Curry wanted to run a Nike-sponsored camp, which matter deeply to elite players.

Curry's friend and former roommate Chris Strachan recalls of 2013, "That summer, when it was really decision time, [Nike] were looking at Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis coming up. They gave Kyrie a camp and they gave Anthony Davis a camp. They didn't give Steph a camp."

One Nike official accidentally addressed Stephen as "Steph-on," the moniker of Steve Urkel's alter ego in Family Matters. "I heard some people pronounce his name wrong before," says Dell Curry. "I wasn't surprised. I was surprised that I didn't get a correction."

A PowerPoint slide featured Kevin Durant's name, presumably left from repurposed materials.

As someone familiar with Nike's marketing operation says, in regard to Curry: "Everything that makes him human and cuddly and an unlikely monster is anathema to Nike. They like studs with tight haircuts and muscles." 

Curry ended up signing with Under Armour and his deal currently runs through 2024. Under Armour was interested in Curry leading up to the 2009 draft but he already signed with Nike.

Under Armour's in with Curry was actually through Kent Bazemore. The brand would send Bazemore box after box and the gear was all over the Warriors' practice facility.

"Yeah, I have no shame when it comes to branding," said Bazemore. "I'll throw Under Armour's name, anything I'm a part of. I'll speak so highly of it. And Steph's like, 'My deal is up.' " Bazemore seized the opening. "I'm like, 'Man, come over here, get your own shoe.' I hadn't talked to anybody at Under Armor about this. I was making all these promises, like 'Get your own shoe, you're the face of the game,' sending out all these hypotheticals. I haven't talked to anyone over there."

Bazemore now makes six figures annually with Under Armour, which is a high figure considering his profile.

Nike retained Curry's matching rights when he agreed to a deal with Under Armour, but they let him go.

According to a Sept. 16, 2015, report from ESPN's Darren Rovell, "Nike failed to match a deal worth less than $4 million a year."

The Golden State Warriors will save $4 million in taxes and $1.8 million in salary if Andrew Bogut fails to make the NBA All-Defensive first or second team.

Bogut must play 65 games (currently five away) and repeat as a member of the All-Defensive team to receive the bonus.

The tax bill of the Warriors will drop from $18.8 million to $14.9 million.

Golden State would also have an extra $1.6 million in cap space without Bogut earning the bonus.

The Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs meet again on Saturday with the highest combined winning percentage of any meeting at least 65 games into the season.

The Warriors and Spurs have a combined winning percentage of .882 with their records of 62-6 and 58-10 respectively.

Both the Warriors and Spurs are also undefeated at home.

Stephen Curry was asked if he wants the Golden State Warriors to win 73 games "deep down inside" and break the Chicago Bulls' record.

"There's a reason you're still talking about that 95-96 Bulls team. So yes," said Curry.

The Warriors are currently one game ahead of the Bulls' pace.

"I don't think any of us are really thinking about numbers," Steve Kerr said recently. "That's one of the reasons we're having such a good season. We're not paying any attention to anything that doesn't matter."

The Golden State Warriors hired Jerry West as a consultant soon after hiring Bob Myers as general manager.

West is a longtime friend of Arn Tellem, who was the boss of Myers as an agent.

West had left his position with the Memphis Grizzlies but remained one of the NBA's most widely respected and experienced builder of teams.

“I give Peter (Guber) a lot of credit on the Jerry thing,” Joe Lacob said. “Just the concept–I think he once said to me, ‘He might be a great consultant and adviser to us, but more than anything he’d be a great–and this is a great term–a great cover of darkness.’

“Meaning, if you have Jerry West, you get a little leeway. Me. I get a little leeway. Bob gets a little leeway. Or whoever the GM is.

“Because Jerry has the experience and people will assume that he has knowledge and will be giving us guidance. Which is, in fact, what he did.”

Before hiring Bob Myers as general manager of the Golden State Warriors, Joe Lacob also interviewed Danny Ferry and at least one other high-ranking executive.

Ferry had recently been fired as general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers and had not yet been hired by the Atlanta Hawks.

Lacob had met Myers previously after being introduced by Danny Ainge.

Larry Riley was acting as GM during the transition of ownership.

“I didn’t really like anybody I was meeting,” Lacob said. “And I kept thinking about Bob. But I thought it’d be too much risk. He wasn’t a GM, he had never worked in operations.

“That’s how I came up with the idea of coming in under Larry and at the time made a somewhat unpopular decision, like a lot of decisions I’ve made, which was to keep Larry.

“I made the decision to bring in Bob as the assistant GM and the deal with Bob was–and I had to convince him of this–let’s see how this goes, let’s get to know each other.”

The Boston Celtics allegedly had Draymond Green in their top-3 going into the 2012 NBA Draft.

The Celtics had Anthony Davis and Jared Sullinger ahead of Green.

Boston selected Sullinger with 21st overall pick and then took Fab Melo with the 22nd overall pick.

Stephen Curry and Kemba Walker have been named the NBA's Players of the Week.

During the week, Walker ranked second in the Eastern Conference in points per game (27.8) and led the conference in three-point field goals per game (4.0). He also averaged 6.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Walker shot 53.8% from the field and 51.6% from the three-point line during the week, making him the only player in the Eastern Conference to average at least 25.0 points, while shooting better than 50.0 percent from both the field and three-point range in the week.

Curry averaged 30.5 points, 5.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a 4-0 week.
