I don't see anything special about him. He makes some tough catches, but that's because he doesn't get a lot of separation. Nothing stands out.
I think the guy from Charlotte will be better.

I agree. Dubose seems to have real upside that he can unlock. Wicks just seems to be a guy who was maybe a little bigger and stronger than most college defenders, but will no longer have any advantages in the pros.
Being able to make some contested catches isn't that great if it's counterbalanced by not being able to create enough uncontested catches. Making your QB throw contested balls too much is inherently unhealthy, even if you do catch slightly more than your fair share of them.

There are some really impressive cuts in this video. I'm interested in seeing what he looks like in preseason.

Jim Nagy did a breakdown of the senior bowl participants. He said the major thing that stood out to him about Wicks was his ability to do double moves. He said someone so big and rangy being able to decelerate and accelerate so swiftly in full route motion was super impressive.. just a tidbit of encouragement I guess. He also said a player like Wicks with his size and skill falling to the 5th round was a total steal for us….
Side note- also compared Jayden Reed to Deebo Samuel at the senior bowl.. which in fact, gets me awfully hard. Sorry not sorry.

Deebo is about 30lbs. heavier so that's a big stretch.

I think it was more about game style and versatility than physical stature was the impression I got. Reed is a slot WR and Deebo is built like a RB, that’s pretty obvious.
Deebo coming out of South Carolina drew comparisons to Golden Tate who is 190lbs and very similar to Reed size wise so there’s also that too. Like I said the comparison was more about the fluidity in their movements and the way they attack the ball in the air and the confidence they carry. He said Deebo was very much like Jayden at his senior bowl participation.

Early returns proving me wrong. He's still probably Just a Guy, but I thought he would be on the Practice Squad instead of Dubose.

I was right there with you on all counts, including liking Dubose more. My theory is that Wicks must have proven to be the best blocker of the bunch in practices and training camp, possibly by far, and that's why he's getting so many snaps. That and Watson being out, of course.

DuBose was also injured pretty much all of camp.

I don’t know if this tweet is referring to Davante Adams but if you look at Davante’s testing numbers and measurables they are remarkably similar to Wicks. It’s actually crazy how close they are.

Unless the 40-time was taken from his pro-day, it's not Davante. He ran a 4.56 at the combine.
Edit: It's Justin Jefferson

Wicks and Jefferson are basically the same player IMO.

I'm not at all saying they're the same player. I am saying Wicks ceiling is Jefferson.
Anyone can look at stats and compare 2 players. A monkey can be taught to do that. But looking at how they project and how much they will improve, that needs some thought, insight and skill.
Watch Wicks separate from defenders, he's unlike anyone else we have. Watson has raw speed to separate, Reed has quickness, but Wicks has the body control to get open. Watch how he catches passes and he's always much more open than the rest of our guys.

That's what you're demonstrating when you say Wicks's ceiling is Justin Jefferson?

Yep. Just like I told you and the rest of the board 6 weeks ago that Love is good. Exactly like that. Maybe a little luck too.

And every productive and freakishly fast slot receiver drafted in the 5th round has a theoretical ceiling of Tyreek Hill. Let's please not do this.
